Is anyone running Comp Cams XE262H? The specs are:
total duration @.006: in 262 ex 275
valve timing @006: intake open 25 close 57 exhaust open 72 close 23
duration @ .05: in 218 ex 224
Max lift: in .513 ex .520
4 degrees advance built in and 110 degree lobe separation
I think it might work well for me but when I did a search on this forum I couldn't find much information posted by folks who actually have it in a running engine. There are just a few posts by folks that said they plan to use it.
I will be installing a F427 intake and old COAE-D heads with CJ valves, pocket porting, and cleaned up exhaust ports on my 390. I will have around 8.8-9:1 compression. I considered the Crane 941 but it will drop my dynamic compression to about 7 even, which seems too low. Also, I would need adjustable rockers to run the 941 and that means more $. I considered going to a single pattern cam since the heads will be worked over pretty good, but then I stumbled across the XE262H which is sort of a mild dual pattern cam. I think the XE262H would work fine with non-adjustable rockers and it would keep my dynamic compression around 7.5.
I assume I can run this cam with around 9:1 compression (Comp Cams does not say anything about compression on the spec card) and I can run non-adjustable rockers. Does that sound right?
Can anyone tell me about this cam? I am just trying to learn about reading cam specs and it looks like this one would work well for my mild build up, but do any of you cam experts see something that jumps out and says "heck no, that thing would be a dog in a 9:1 compression 390 in a 4600 lb truck".
I think its a little mild for your setup. Crane 901 has more lift and duration then that and its considered a mild cam. Cranes are hands down the most popular with Ford V8's.
I looked at the 901 also but it actually has less duration (in 204 ex 216 @.05) and intake lift (.501) than the XE262H.
The lift reported above for the XE262H is with 1.73 rocker ratios, the lift reported by Crane for the 901 is with a 1.76 ratio. If the lift on the 901 is adjusted to 1.73 ratios, it comes out around .492 intake and .524 exhaust.
Based on what I understand about reading cam specs, the XE262H falls out somewhere in the middle between the Crane 901 and 941 and has a less pronounced dual pattern (if that makes any sense).
Am inthe process of using the XE262H in my build right now. Wish it was running but still got a ways to go on the truck. Waiting now for the DUI dizzy and the Hedman Elite headers.
My compression should work out at about 9.5:1. I called Comp Cams and expained my build, after choosing this cam previous to the call, and the guy gave me this cam as the one to use, reinforcing my decision. Getting itchy to go for sure.
I've got a 75 F-250 k/c camper special, gvwr 8100 lbs, i'm running a 390 holley 750 carb. the moter has 50,000 on it a TCI trans from summit raceing (nice) ,i just installed a COMP. CAM its a 268H , duration in. 268 with a 494 lift ,it has a nice little lop, alittle rough idle , next time i'll go for maybe a 292H. my truck runs good no problem on accl. up to speed ,oh one thing sucker sucks GAS lol oh well you play the game you PAY the price.
I'm new to engine mods, but I'm running a xe262h in my 40 over 428, which has edel head's 76 cc chambers blue thunder intake 650 speed demon all in a 76 f150 3.25 ratio with 31 tires. moves the truck just fine. have 300 miles on this motor so far, can't wait to find some HEMI's!
