Hmm, 85 F-350, What sixe exaust, wheres the exits, what brand of muffs, is it true duals, and how loud is the drone in the cab?
2 1/2" pipe
i bought 2 thrush glasspacks from advance auto
and it is true duals with no cats, i guess the previous owner never had them installed?
i exited both pipes out in front of the rear passenger side wheels
and its the perfect tone, not too loud at all, i tried running straight pipe and it was just way too loud so i added the glasspacks and it was perfect, sounds even better accelerating
Not much drone inside then? We have superturbos back under the box on our '90 460 and the floor vibrates, I might just go grab some glasspacks for the time being, till the y pipe finishes rusting out.
After looking around this forum a bit I think I may be the only one but, I despise glasspacks and do not like the redneck cackle they produce.
I prefer sound quality over volume. Annoyingly loud only sounds good on vehicles used for racing, that actually have engines that sound good at extreme volume.
i agree with 85f250xlt i cannot stand the glasspacks sound. if you want loud then quite when cops are around check these out http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...44&prmenbr=361 these are your answer hook up a complete system to one side and a dump to the other with a race style muffler or run straight w/o muffler just an idea!!!! look at these for mufflers also http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...38&prmenbr=361 heard they sound great!! Just my $0.02

Well, guys, 78 400Cid, Thrush Magnums 2.25", Nice deep tone, not raspy.
'90 F-250 S/cab w/460, 2.5" cherrybombs, Very deep tone, only snaps when the RPMs are at max. As for cutouts, I would like to get some electric ones. Just my .02 cents worth. Glasspacks are cheap and do the job. I guess being a redneck helps though right?
Oh yea, 85 F350, I went and got some cherrybombs, the drone is still there same as it was with the superturbos but at least it sounds like a truck now. LOL
If you want something a little different in a glasspack, try a FlowTech "Red Hot". It's a glasspack style with a louvered core, and it has a ceramic material for packing (instead of fiberglass). This ceramic gives the Red Hot a better tone than a standard glasspack. You can also reverse them; one direction is quieter, the other direction is louder with a slightly better flow.
F250rangerexplorer, I have one of those Moroso Spiral Flows that you mentioned. Best I can tell, it really does work to scavenge the exhaust gases. It's way too loud though for me, so I mounted it in series with a single chamber Flowmaster. This gives a very unique tone on my Bronco.....
i have a triton 5.4l v-8 with a glass pack and then back to a y pipe to dual exhaust and it sounds mean its roars loud and its sounds awsome when you rev it up. It sounds like that purple car with flamethowers in the move Gone In Sixty Seconds.
i'm looking for something thats gives off a major deep sound at idle. heard one today from a late 70's dodge 3/4 ton and whatever it was sounded awesome, i loved it. i don't want tickets but i do want the extra deep sound. i dunno what would sound the best with a completly stock 351M. i was wondering cause mine is completly rusted on my truck. funny cause nothin else is rusty.

LOL great, thats the whole thing, its got to sound like a truck, not grandmas grocery getter
i get compliments all the time on how well my truck sounds, and yeah, it only snaps when i really get on it
Yeah, I just found the drone in my cab, the one air tube was welded into the pipe and was rusted and ready to fall off. I had to pull the pipes from the flange where the converter used to mount to the mufflers, so while I was at it I put a plate between the 2 pipes so it coulnd't act as a crossover and bingo true dual exaust. Sounds alot better than it did and still isn't excessive like some smallblocks.
im running open pipe and it makes me happy, i drive by cops all the time and they dont care here, we have no sniffer test or anything so i dont have to worry, i dont like glasspack sound, and they burn out, i like flowmaster because of their sound chambers that dont rely on fiberglass filling, i think you should go with flowmaster if you dont want to do open pipe, it costs a little more, but you get what you pay for
The problem with your theory on the glasspack muffler is that you run straight pipes, so a burnt out glasspack is gonna sound pretty damn close to what you have, it changes the sound a bit but not alot.
