I have a 2006 F-250 with a V10 engine and am wanting a new and louder muffler! Should I go with a glasspack, Areo 3030, or Flowmaster 40? I want loud but not too loud...
You may not like the type of loud you get. A V10 will not sound like a V8. Pick up a stainless Flowmaster 70BB2 muffler, add a nice tip and call it a day. Louder than stock but enough capacity to not be annoying. Your tailpipe should be 3.5" so a 3" outlet woul need expanded because 3.5" are not as common.
There was typo in my first post sorry. Split crank on the 6.8l so its an even fire. The Dodge V10 is odd fire and don't sound the greatest either. The truck 8.1l V10 don't sound too bad the Vipers sound like garbage. The V8 like the 5.4l does fire two cylinders on one bank right after one another as it goes through the firing order which helps to create the nice V8 sound. Does not go back and forth between banks like the 6.8l. If you like the sound of a loud V6 put a small muffler on your truck. I suspect you will eventually change back to something with more capacity.
Okay, now I understand! I think that I would like sound because I have watched quite a few videos over V10s... Will a different muffler do anything to mpg?
I have listed here a muffler shootout test done by CAR CRAFT:
MUFFLER Idle dB WOT dB
DynoMax Super Turbo 89 123
DynoMax Race Magnum 94 133
Flowtech Afterburner 92 124
Hooker Competion 92 122
Hooker Super Competion 90 125
Summit Turbo 89 124
Summit Fully Welded 92 125
Thrush Boss Turbo 90 123
Thrush Magnum Glasspack 92 128
All mufflers were dyno-tested on a 355-cube SBC with 10.0:1 compression, Air Flow Research 190 aluminum heads, a CompCams 292 hyd. a Victor Jr. intake, a Holley 750-cfm double-pumper, and 1 5/8 Headman headers.

I noticed no difference in mpg on my truck with any of the mufflers. Matter of fact the best mpg my truck ever got was when it was all stock. But the tires were smaller and narrower than I have now.
