I am getting ready to do this mod myself. I've already done the CCV with the hose ending just under the driver's seat. The problem is my wife chokes whenever the wind is blowing it her way. So I need to do something.

Yes, I would have but I only had about 5 feet left at the time and that's where it ended. I'll get a coupler and some more hose and do as you suggest.

I did the ccv mod about a week ago and i kinda like the little wiff of smoke. if you look at ANY older tractor out there they all have the ccv venting straight down, our 1066 IH is always blowin some smoke out of it, and under a full load it's really puffin.

any way....

I got bored at work today and I made a miny exhaust pipe for mine, since I have the side pipes i took a little piece of 1" SS pipe and put a lil angle cut on it and mounted it under my bumper, just like EVERY truck out there has. so it looks like an exhaust pipe wisping out some smoke, but it's only 1" and it on a big ol' diesel, looks really cute on there.

as soon as i get some picks of it I will post em

The CCV mod is taking the CrankCase Vent (CCV) and rerouting it out into the atmosphere, instead of having the engine burn it. on the later models all the oil mist that is in the ccv gases is ran through the intercooler cloging tubes and causing the ruber boot to collect dust from leakage, on the 97 and older models it just allows you to take out the restrictive metal piece that it runs up into, and keeps the oily crap out of your turbo's compressor side. I dont remember who had all the great pics of the mod but I know someone has mentioned that they have pic in this thread.

444dieselrod can I assume that since the older body style PSDs dont have an intercooler this mod does not really apply to them?

How about if you install an aftermarket intercooler on an older PSD (ie a Banks kit)?

yes and no on that one

You are correct on that it probably wouldn't help the older PSD because they dont have an intercooler. but I have read that by taking out the little metal intake tube that the CCV runs into it will reduce the intake restriction.

I just like to look at the air coming out of the CCV and know that I am no longer burning all that oil and hot air, and that I am probably getting a cleaner intake charge because all that crap isnt in there.

and yes if you put an aftermarket intercooler on it will help then because now you have an intercooler, just like the late models.

Which truck is yours in the gallery? I'd like to see pics of this modification. I'm going to put a Tymar intake on my truck and probably should do this at the same time. I'm thinking of running the hose to the rear axel and terminating it with a 45 degree turned-down steel pipe, just open air with no filters or anything. I want to keep it simple.

I was wondering with this CCV mod do you loose oil and if so how much and how fast. Didnt know if blowing out the mist would add up to lost oil quickly. Also does this mist of oil help with keep the turbo cooler and lubricated or is it not needed.

Rosa,
You don't lose any more oil on the bypass then if you had it hooked up stock.
What would come out the hose is what would have gone into your turbo/exhaust and CAC system.
The venting of the gases/vapors/oil into the turbo does not aid in any turbo lubrication. The turbo has its own lubrication system.
This is Fords inexpensive answer to venting the CC gases by running it into the turbo and eventually some of it exits through your exhaust.
The main purpose of the CCV modification is to eliminate the oil build up in your CAC and to maximize the cooling efficiency of your air to air radiator.
Plus, you remove a 20% restriction in the CV sleeve itself where the vent inside the sleeve bridges across the sleeve.

Check valve before or after the muffler?
Not sure I follow you on that?
