Have 88 Ford F-250 7.3 diesel with c-6 automatic with a 4:10 rearend. Would like to know what rearend I could possibly use to get the truck to turn lower RPM's.
3.55 is a common one, many of the folks here can tell you about it more, My father's truck uses them, but there's many issues with that truck, maintenance(lack of) being top of the list...
I had a gear vendors unit on my 88 and it allowed the engine to slow approximately 22% when it shifted into overdrive. I could shift in all 3 gears (c-6 auto) but first gear was realllllyyyy winding up the engine. The gear vendor unit would not shift til traveling about 23 mph to allow the speed sensor to work. The gear vendor unit can be selected to shift automatically or like a standard aux trans.
I looked at those as well, but I think I am going to opt for the 5 or 6 speed tranny.
The gear splitting looks good, but you can only have under or over drive.
Using mine like I do I need more gears in both directions.
The 5 or 6 speed will give me a lower first gear and a higher high gear.
