Did the original 9" rearend in 70's trucks come with 28 or 31 spline?

I believe 31 spline is normal for the truck. The drag racers like to collect them.

I have found from switching to 31 spline that most 2WD come with the 28spline. And alot of 4WDs have the 31 spline.

Anthony, They came with both, mostly 28, but with 31 mixed in. Dre could be on to something with the 4X4 too.

I believe in the 4wd theory. Anything I found when I replaced mine had to be about 75 or newer and be 4x4 to get to 31 splines.

Mine has the 28 spline axles in it. Oh well, not making 300 hp anyway, but its getting 15 mpg. :->
