extended warrenty
Ford offers a small discount if you buy it when the vehicle is new.
The first 3 years or 36K miles the Ford NEW VEHICLE warranty is all the coverage you receive.
At 36 months and one day, or 36,001 miles then the extended service plan kicks in.
Each of the plans clearly state what is covered on the first page in one paragraph. The next four pages are all the exclusions and exceptions.
I never bought these plans in the past as generally speaking they ALL are NOT a good value. With one singular exception: High cost vehicle that have a tendency to have MAIN components crap out in the 60-75K range.
If you loose a torque converter and trash the tranny at 55K miles of NORMAL wear then the $1600-$2200 cost may save you some serious $$$.
Because Ford did not include a tranny temp gage in my 01 F250, I am sure I cooked the fluid on the maiden voyage into the mountains. I changed the oil, added a cooler and gage, but always woundered how much I fried the guts of the 4R100.
I got the plan I needed to protect myself down the road. Because I never had any claims before I killed my truck at 47K, they will cancel my service plan and refund my $$$ based on a prorated scale. Not great, but at least I am not out the entire cost.
There is a very large range of prices on these plans. The Ford sponsored web sit has each and every plan, and their standard prices.

This site also covers new vehicle warranties.
The dealers have a broad range of wiggle room and can dramatically reduce their quote on this product but many do not, as it is a MAJOR profit maker for the dealer and FoMoCo.
