Rough Idle and smoke

I Purchased my 2004 6.0 psd about three month's ago. It has been back to the dealer 10 times so far the have replaced the EGR several times and the valve on the turbo, it has been flashed 3 times and have had no luck fixing the problem. If anyone has any recomendations please let me hear them. Does this sound like a mechanical or computer problem. The truck runs great most of the time, when it starts the quiet to loud idle the problems begin. After it starts to idol like this the black smoke is soon to follow. I also have a problem with the truck going in to some form of a safety mode when you accelerate faster than usual it will not rev up it will shift fast under 2000 rpm. when it is doing this it is very slow, when it does this i pull over shut it off and restart and it runs fine after the restart.
From what I have read on the web site it sounds like i need the backpressure sensor replaced what do you think about this, any type of feed back will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You might want to start a new post so others will see this, you have come to the right place though.

Your EBP sensor has already shown a replacement, along with the EGR valve.

To me, this sounds like a computer error causing the EGR to open improperly. This most certainly has something to do with the EGR system (or one of its controlling sensors) and my best recommendation would be this...

Go here http://www.fordtrucks.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=254187
Find the first post (the instructions for disconnection)
And that SHOULD solve your problems

Give it a try and post your results in that thread.

There have been some other people in this forum having VERY SIMILAR issues. I have been working on it; if you try this and it does nothing, drop me a line over PM.

is there anyway you can tell if i have the throttle plate from the vin. If not i will pull the tube and take a look. What do you think about the backpressure sensor would that be something that you would look in to? Once i disconnect the egr how long should it take to see a result?

Thanks

The EGR disconnect is about a 5 second thing...
toughest part is making yourself tall enough to reach over this beast and unclip the retaining "U" on the back of the plug....
you should see result pretty quickly....

Where your real problems seem to be are in the area of your
service department... woudl consider going to another if you can...
10 trips is MORE than enough to fix something... !!!

and these trucks are TOO fun to drive to be sitting in a svc bay !

Thumbs up EGR disconected

I disconnected the EGR yesterday and have not had a pob yet. What is your opinion on the edge w/ attitude system do you feel this will affect the warrenty or having the truck serviced at the dealer. I still do not know if i have the throttle plate is there anyway to tell from the vin?

Thanks

The EDGE w/ ATTITUDE is awesome!!! The only problem is that in the power level 5 setting, on some trucks it has a hard time shifting @ w.o.t. I know that this is not the case with all 6.0's, but I do know it happens. I love the EDGE, and I have stacked it with the Preditor for one hell of a ride. After it was all dialed in, at the Fun Ford Weekend it ran some very awesome times...even beating all the stock Lightnings & Mustangs!!! Not bad for a truck on 35x12.50x18" BFG Mud Terrain's that weights almost 3 times what the mustang does.

Stacked=broken rods

I agree about the Edge box though. GREAT unit. It can take a LONG time for the tranny to figure out the level 5 WOT, but it will eventually....then HOLD ON.

That, too. But I won't get involved in this argument for many reasons, including the fire.
