what distributor do I ask for?
I have a 460 from a 68 linclon, If I were searching for a duraspark II ignition, what cars or engines would I ask the salvage yard for? Primarily the distributor.

A full size will work too as will all of them.
The amount of mechanical advance varies by application and can sometimies be too much and too late to be if any help. The intermediates use 12 initial as a base and offer less centrifugal as a rule than the full size so that is the reason for the suggestion.
Use this link to ID the amount of advance your new dizzy has and how to recurve for best operation. If your lincoln is stock with the high C/R and cam you will want to limit initial advance to about 6 degrees BTDC and total advance ( initial plus centrifugal) to about 32 degrees.

Also use care with regard to the vacuum advance unit. The late distributors use 20 degrees of vacuum advance to offet the slow burn offered with the use of EGR. This is double the point distributors vacuum advance. You may have to adjust the vacuum advance dashpot with a 1/8" allen CCW to slow the advance come in rate with your combo to avoid part throttle ping.
Hope this helps some...

That was some very good data to go on, but what I have found with this "project motor" was the distributor gear didin't quite reach the cam gear. I thought that the distributors were specific to the series. But you said that "all" would work". I'm really stumped now. Don't the configs have different shaft lengths? Someome tried to convert this unit from points to duraspark and the first thing I found was that the dizzy did not turn while cranking. Any more input?

By all I meant...
All 429, 460, 351C, 351m and 400 duraspark distributors will work...
You are correct that the different engine familys use different shaft lengths and body configurations...
