I recently bought an 88 F250 4x4 diesel. I would like to know if the axle is worth keeping or swaping for a monobeam Dana 60 from an F350. I have never had an IFS axle before so I don't know what issues these have other then there appearing to be waaay too many U-Joints in there for anyone's good. The truck has the 10.25" full floating rear end and leaf springs in front and back.
If I do swap the axle out how hard of a job is that? Does the steering linkage need to be replaced too?
The TTB front axle in your F250 is a Dana 50. I agree, there's alot of parts to wear out in that TTB frontend. That's why I bought an F350 instead of the 250, I believe in keeping it simple . That's not to say the 250's are bad trucks though. The issue for me wasn't so much the u-joints as it is the axle pivot and radius arm bushings wearing out, and the extra alignment complications of lifting a independent frontend. Ask about the TTB to solid axle swap in the Offroad forum. There are guys there who have done the swap and can answer any question you have and offer advice based on first hand experience. There is also a write-up on the swap in the 'Tech Articles' section of this website.
