I saw a picture of an '04 with a single DIN stereo installation kit somewhere on the web (of course, I cant find it now); not one with that pocket under the DIN opening or two DIN slots. This was just one DIN opening right in the middle of the kit/plate. Anyone else seen this? Anyone know where to get it? I actually need it for a slightly different project other than just installing my CD player, and i'd rather not try to make my own like I usually do. Thanks.
DIN is the sizing scale for car audio receivers. Most aftermarket receivers are single DIN size. Our '04 stereos/dash openings are double DIN sized, meaning you could fit two DIN sized aftermarket receivers in the space. My 99 ranger was actually a DIN and a half. Not sure what DIN stands for exactly (something we stole from another country i'm sure) but it's a general sizing term. So, all the aftermarket installation kits i've seen have two din-size openings: One for the aftermarket CD player, and the other is a pocket. I'm looking for one that just has one DIN slot opening with no second opening or pocket. It would put the aftermarket receiver in the middle of the factory stereo opening. Have I lost anyone yet?
When I got a new reciever and speakers in my old car, the audio shop I had it done at had ALL different sizes of those... Ask a local stereo installer about it.. Just a thought. I dont know where to get one on the net, I never looked for that kind of stuff before.
That little pocket under the head unit comes in handy. I found it's a great place to put my cell phone while it's charging. Other than that it's totally useless.
hey man if you find out where you get a kit like that let me know cause i just want to circuit city and they told me that they dont have anything yet for the new f-150
Well, I e-mailed the guy with the picture and unfortunately, he said it was a custom kit from a guy at a stereo shop. So unless we want to survive with that pocket, we'll have to make our own. That's fine with me, I do custom stereo work myself, but I was hoping to spend that time on other projects, not this one. Oh well...fiberglass it is!
