Will a Pioneer double din cd player fit a 1998 Ford Ranger without modifications? The Pioneer website says that you need a install kit to put one of these in a Ranger. If anyone has installed one let me know how the fit is and why you need an install kit. I just figured these were big enough to fit in factory opening without leaving any gaps. Thanks for any info.

I'm not real familiar with the Ranger but the Crutchfield catalog shows that it has a single DIN hole. I don't think Ford ever used a Double din in any of thier vehicles. They did use some 1.5 DIN openings.

The newer vans and superduties have a double DIN size. My dad put a double DIN radio in his 2000 E350 van. It was a pain in the **** because noone made a kit for it. Just take a tape measure and see how high your radio is, and compare it with a double DIN radio. That should tell you one way or the other.
