Hi! I can't tell you how glad I am to find this site! To be able to chat with others who love their trucks as much as I do, heheh...
On the instrument panel of my 2001 Ford Ranger Edge truck, the oil level dial does not work until my truck has been running for about 5 minutes, then it will all of a sudden register. Also, my odometer has just went out. Could it be a fuse? Before I take it in, I'd like to try changing the fuse first to see if that will fix the problem.
The only other thing is that, on my fuse diagram, there are 3 fuses labeled "instrument cluster." How do I know which one controls the ones I need?
Thanks so much! Have a good day!

I sort of doubt you have a fuse problem, but I would pull each one and just look at it. For the oil pressure issue, I'd suspect a failed pressure sending unit. You can test it and make the determination. Unless something has changed, the oil pressure gauge is an "idiot gauge". By that, it doesn't really read true oil pressure, but rather is designed to read midrange when the engine has 7-10psi. With that in mind, you can hook up an ohm meter to the gauge, start the cold engine, and test.
On the odometer, I'd suspect the VSS (vehicle speed sonsor). The VSS feeds speed info to the speedometer, computer, cruise, and the automatic tranny uses the info for controlling shifting. They are cheap and easy to install, however, I'd visit Autozone and have them pull the codes for free. This will verify a failed VSS.
the vss in my truck a 99. is on top of the differential you can get the part at az for $20 i Have gone thru 2 of them in the last year. My cel never came on , my abs light would come on sporadically the sppeedo worked sporadically. the new vss fixed those issues. I dont know if the vss on a 2001 does the same as on the 98 99 and 2000. but it is an easy and cheap fix
