Number 45 fuse has blown a few times in the past causing no instruments and no throttle response.
When the truck had the same symptoms yesterday, I checked the fuse and it is good.
I have repaired the bare for the OD wire in the colum shift lever. It was chaffing.
I have removed and checked every fuse
I have read out every fuse, every fuse is good.
There is 12 volts on both sides of fuse 45 when the ignition is on
I started to remove the fuse box thinking that one of the connectors that the fuse plugs into was pushed in or bad. I do not know how to remove one of the connectors. It has two red pins that move out one at the top and one at the bottom.
Does anyone know how to remove this connector?
Has anyone remove this type fuse box before? I have it half way out, how difficult is it going to be?
Can I access the inside of the fuse box once I have it out?
And lastly, if anyone has any other ideas I should be checking, please let me know.
I have read many forums on this issue, but hey are all solved with the fuse being bad. This seems unique....please help.
i replaced the shifter thinking that was the problem, the wires were chaffed a lil bit. i blew the fuse again. theres four things that draw off of that fuse, Over drive, fourwheel drive switch, insterment cluster, and throttle pedal
My earlier post was way off base. I tried to do it from memory and confused some circuits based off another post. I am sorry about that.
It does only feed what u describe. The 4x4 module and the rest is correct looking at schematic. I would say module or pedal but you are going to have to look around for rubbed wire.
with power on both sides of fuse, unplug the items one at a time and see which ones drops the power off of the cold side of the fuse.
the schematic also says something about a fog light switch depending on the year of the truck. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> my truck first blew the fuse out when i dropped the shifter down to 2. i thought for sure it was the shifter because it would always blow the fuse out when i shifted from park to drive.<o></o>
ill try what u said and then im going to check the throttle pedal and the 4x4 switch look for chaffed wires and maybe just replace them.
Thanks for your help so far. I have removed the fuse box, there is a circuit board that prevent me from getting behind the fuse so I did a good inspection and checked all the fuses again!! I reinstalled it and still the same issue, no instruments, starts but no throttle response. Since I know the shift lever has issues, I have ordered a new one to rule it out. Should I be looking into a throttle position sensor also? I do not have 4 WD so nothing to check there.
I had your problem once. No throttle off idle. It was a fuse that I had removed to check and put back in the wrong slot. It was 45 or 46, I don't exactly remember.
If there is an empty slot beside 45 or 46, stick a 10 amp fuse in it.
I know this is a SWAG, but what the heck.
I rechecked the fuse, looks like it is in the right spot. The open slot will not hold the fuse in it. I replaced the shift lever today, still has the same problem. There is 12 volts on one of the pins on the shift lever, so maybe a ground??? I am out if ideas!!! I do not have a schematic yet, does anyone know what else runs from fuse 45?
Thank you Pop, that was the kind if information I was looking for. I was able to get the schematics. Looks like the number 45 fuse runs to a few different components. I Checked for power at the throttle position lever, headlight switch, and overdrive cancel switch. None of them have 12v. The overdrive cancel switch has 12v on one pin, but not the correct one. I dropped the fuse box down and checked for 12v at connector C270a pin 8. I did not get the 12 v. I am thinking the fuse box is bad. I would appreciate asecond opinion before I spend $340.00.
I was able to find a used fuse box for $50. Put it in last night and I am back on the road today. For future reference, this started as a chaffed wire from the shift lever that caused the fuse box to fail. Seems to be a pretty common thing with these trucks. If your number 45 fuse blows, do not wait to check that wire since it can cause bigger problems.
my truckstarted with a chaff on the OD cable replaced it no luck, i pulled the dash apart to look for worn wires no luck. I decided to leave the 4wheel drive switch disconceted it took a day to blow the fuse again. i replaced the throttle as soon as i went to shift the truck the fuse blew twice right away. pulled the dash apart again checked all the wires reconnected the 4wheel drive switch no blown fuse this time. i think iam going to check the fuse box.

You'll get more eyeballs on the issue if you start a new thread with all the details so we can give good advice. Details of the truck, what symptoms you have, all that stuff.
And if your truck is shiny post up a pic, that always gets folks excited.
