a/c damper??
Got in my 2001 today and turned on the much needed a/c and all the air is blowing from the defrost vents at the windshield. I turned the *** a few times and hit the dash and nothing hapened. My question is what is the problem? It the switch electronic or mechanical? How hard is it to get to the bypass damper to get it back to blowing through the dash vents. Thanks for all the help..

You will be looking for a vacuum leak. Either the vacuum pump, or a line. The auto hubs on the 4x4's are also vacuum operated, and they tend to chew up the lines fairly quickly.

Don't mean to sound ignorant, but where is the vacuum pump. Is it a seperate pump for just the dampers, or for the whole truck? I don't have auto hubs, so that eliminates that idea. Would there be somthing else not working if the vacuum pump stoped working?

It's on the passenger side fender. You can usually hear it buzzing when you first turn the key on. Everything that requires a vacuum signal is run by the pump since diesels don't create a vacuum on their own.
