thinking i had a bad valve in the 400 in my 81 f350 4x4, i purchased a 400 that the previous owner pulled from his 65 street truck. he wanted better economy and said the 400 was too much motor for the truck. this 400 has a edelbrock streetmaster intake. no idea if the internals. i was told that it was built more as a hotrod motor. in my truck, should i run the streetmaster with my carter afb or switch the intake to the performer that was on my old motor with the afb?
non egr performer. i live in washington state and not too concerned with DEQ! i can get it to pass.
don't know if it is a concern but my truck has a 4 speed, 4:10 gears and only 33 inch tires. going down the freeway i'm at 2700 rpm at 60mph. i don't even really consider driving the 70 mph speed limit due to fuel consumption! the slow lane is my friend. but around town i must admit that i like to rev motors so the streetmaster looked ok but never ran one.
well the erg model w/o the egr plate is less like to have warping and seal problems arise
well on the streetmaster its been said that it works on the 351c but not as well on the 400 and if you want to rev and make noise try a timing gear drive the "whine" makes people real curious as to what blower you have LOL cha right
now reving a motor is a BAD thing but as long as you don't scrap it
and have you called JEFFS bronco graveyard and gotten the proper speedo-gear yet
i changed the speedo gear. as for rev...not stupid! i just like to be in the mid range power. 2000-3500 because of the gearing it's easy. i'd love to change to a gear drive but it already has a double roller straight up set thats recent. good exhaust gives me the sound i like. 2 1/2" with 24" glasspacks.
I have an Edelbrock streetmaster on my 400. that manifold is a single plane manifold and used for high RPM power. If your motor isn't built for high RPM (cam etc), you will not get the power anyway. Use the Performer and sell the Streetmaster.
