New T-bird
Hey guys,
My mom just bought a 2002 Thunderbird. It is pretty cool with the side emblems, grill, and styling. Looks kind of low-slung. Overall, I'm not impressed with the fit and trim, though. It's the "Thunderbird blue" color. Kind of a metallic turqouise. Fantastic paint job. Interior really isn't anything special except for the stereo. I don't know, just kind of expected more for the heavy price penalty. The MSRP read 39k but the dealer has this little tag hanging in the car that reads "Limited availability charge -10,000" How do you like that?!She (or should I say my Dad) ended up paying 47k. I asked him if he felt his change hit him in the back of the head as he walked out the door.....
I think the T-bird is kind of neat looking, I think their add with the guy who gets the girl after she starts a drag race is kind of stupid though.
That just emphasizes the lack of performance to me.
Power sells!!!! A cool body with mundane power will stall these things eventually.
Then you will see them selling in a more reasonable range.
No offense to your Dad, but I think paying $10 K over sticker is insane.
Look at the PT loser, and how they can be bought with a discount now.
So will go the "new" T-bird...
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 29-Mar-02 AT 02:17 PM (EST)]Sorry to hear that your dad had to pay $10,000.00 over sticker. We just bought a red Bird March 8th and did not have to pay the overcost. We traded in one of our Expy's and walked off with an amazing deal.
As for the power, it is not as slow or underpowered as you think. Granted, it's not a Vette, but it has enough power to get yourself in trouble. We are pretty happy with ours.
We ended up with the Red, with the hardtop option. It's pretty cool driving it around, it's quite a head turner. Most people know what it is but it's funny when some people ask: "Hey cool car, what is it?".
Deb
P.S. About the only thing we don't particularily like is the overly plastic looking grill. So after numerous failed attempts of browsing the net for a non existent replacement, please let me know if anyone knows of an after market. About the only option at this point is custom made.
For that kind of money you could almost buy two of the originals, which in a few short years will be worth four times the new T-bird. Some cars look better on the road than in pictures....this, unfortunately, is not one of them, IMHO.

New T-bird
No offense taken guys (and gals). I thought it was ridiculus to pay that kind of price for a "trendy" car as well. Believe me, If you had seen his face when he wrote the check (7500.00) for the down payment then you would see he felt the same way I do. It was one of those things like, "what will it take to shut you up?" But afterwards, she told him how very happy she was, and she LOVES the car. I guess that's all that matters. As far as getting a good deal, there weren't any. I called every dealer in a 100 mile radius. :-staun

Even without paying the 10 grand over sticker, the price was a shock. When you compare the price of the the T-bird to other vehicles on the market, and compare price verses options, we could of had a nice foreign car. We opted for the different good ole american car.
We had and really didn't need two Expys either, we actually got a nice trade in that helped justify the cost. We plan on keeping the T-bird for along time, even if it means (our boys) restoring it later in it's life.
I hope your parents love it as much as we do.
