ok someone corrected me about the plugs
i ran codes got a 67 so basicly i got nothing
i am getting desperate im gonna buy a coil and rotor today (i forgot to get the rotor when i replaced plugs, wires, cap) just incase my spark is too weak this should top off my ignition system i also need to check for pluged cats
When you had it set at 0 TDC, (Top Dead Center) did you pull the #1 spark plug and stick a screwdriver in the hole to make sure the piston was all the way up?
EDIT: No matter what, you want the balancer pointer set at 0 TDC with the rotor contact pointing directly under the #1 plug tower on the cap. (when you are sure that the #1 piston is all the way up)
The timing is then set by pointing a timing light at the balancer pointer and running the engine... You turn the distributor until the desired timing is set. (with the engine running)
No, If he sets the distributor in with the balancer lined at 10 btdc and the rotor button directly under the #1 terminal on the cap, he'll be cranking his engine @ near proper timing. Why would he wanna' start the engine at 0* of timing. Guess it really doesn't matter either way if he's gonna throw a light at it right after it starts. Blame Chilton's and Haynes, huh.......
BeastyBronco, do you understand how to get your engine firing on #1 cylinder/compression stroke? Follow the 5 steps below. (if someone already posted this, sorry, but I wasn't gonna' read all of these post)
1- Remove the #1 spark plug and put one of your fingers in the spark plug hole.
2- Have a friend manually turn the engine over (clockwise) until you feel a strong burst of air push your finger.
3-Continue to rotate the engine clockwise until the timing pointer lines up 10* BTDC on the balancer (this should take less than 1/2 turn from the burst of air).
4- Set your distributor in to where the rotor button lines directly under #1 on the distributor cap.
5- Throw your wires on in firing order (counter clockwise) and set your timing (with spout connector out.. or with vac disconnected at the distributor and the vac plugged).

If I recall correctly, it does matter when dealing with an EEC distributor....
