Carb/timing issues
I have 79 F250 with a 460 in it. I have a holley 750 on it, and the timing is set to 10 BTC. I have been trying to adjust the carb but it still creates a popping noise as I press down on the accelerator. Its coming from the carb. Does my timing need to be increased? I call the ford dealership and the book says 8 BTC but I have heard to run them at 12. Is that the problem, or is the 750 too big for the motor. It has a dual plane intake. Another question is could it not be getting enough backpressure cause the problem?

I just put a slealth intake and a 750 edelbrock on my 84 460 motor, and timed at 8 it would backfire through the carb. i advanced the timing to 10 and it ran better and the back fire stopped. i am thinking about trying it at 12.
