I have a '03 350 6.0L, @ 60K I had it in and the tourque converter had to be replaced along with the 4th gear clutch packs. Now I am at 69K and my tow/haul mode light started flashing and slipping symptoms. Hoping it's electronic. Any ideas? Also should mention I have a couple of go toys on it Edge and magnaflow, and I also pull a trailer about 5k/yr.

Thursday night, taking off from Thanksgiving dinner, the mighty TourqeShift started acting up. As I pulled out and it started shifting it made a violent clunk then upshifted and downshifted. I let off then tried goin again and it worked fine the rest of the night. Keep in mind my truck was cold (no warm up) and I was driving lightly.
Friday morning I went up town and everything seemed fairly normal at first but on the way to my second stop I got on it to see if it was working normally and it slipped, reving high, and then dropping into gear. After the second stop I jumped right on the freeway to get to a top speed of 10-15mph and all it would do is rev up. I happened to be very close to home so I made it back but had the Ford Roadside people come tow it in to Evergreen Ford in Issaquah, WA.
They called me awhile later to say they can't find a thing wrong with it after driving it and plugging it into their beloved computer.
You are still in warranty? I have had this same problem and they wont touch it untill they can make it happen again. From what i have heard this is a common sign and they should know just by what you told them. On mine they rebuilt it three times and finally i had to buy a remaned unit, 4g's later and no engine/cpu mods its running fine.

Yes I'm still under warrenty. Barley, but am. Just over 33,000 miles!
Your must be quite the ford enthusiast... after all that, I'd be sending mine off a bridge so it could be totaled (but you all didnt hear that :-p )
I'm considering taking it to another dealership. It's always the same story with these guys.. "The computer says nothings wrong"... and then after about the 4th time I take it in they magically figure it out.. They claim they've never heard anything like this..
I am going to have to say that IMO that these trannys are the worst part of the truck. I have had nothing but problems since I got mine. It held up for 18,000 miles untill the TC siezed up and the shop couldn't get the tranny apart for inspection. Well once I got it back it was shifting poorly like the shifts where "flaring" or orverreving before going back into gear. Said they took out one of the valve bodies and just cleaned and adjusted it but no go. So I decided to take it to another dealer. They said other shop didn't reprogram the tranny. So picked it up and it was sweet! Best it had ever driven, shifts where really smooth. But had a alarm/remote start system installed and now it does the same thing. I went to take it in today and told them about getting the alarm system installed and they had to remove the battery. So i asked the service advisor if the tranny has to be reprogrammed everytime the battery is disconnected or what? He replied that the tranny is self-learning which i have read on here before, but the dealership told me that there is a special way of reprogramming it. Like you have to leave the headlights running for so long and then have to do some other things. So when I go back tomorrow I am going to see if the dealer will educate me on this process so I can give some more feed back. I LOVE this truck just dont' know if I love the Tranny as much. Man I miss my manual sports cars
Agreed ... complained to the dealer every couple of thousand miles ...
Too bad the postyes here neve hear of the problems ...Ford seems to know about them ...
Recall on 2004 TorqShifts:
Certain trucks built from 3-8-04 through 6-24-04 may experience a failure of the low/reverse planetary assembly. Specifically one or more of the planet gear pinion shafts may walk out of the carrier. If this occurs metallic contamination of the fluid will occur and will cause harsh or slipping shifts and/or harsh or delayed engagements in forward or reverse. Trucks affected by this recall will have the low reverse planetary replaced if no damage has occured, or will have the transmission overhauled and repaired as needed, along with replacement of the transmission cooler, if damage has occured. This recall has been extended until 3-31-06
