There's a mutt in my parent's neighborhood that the owners don't control at all. It wanders all over the place(est. its territory). I've seen torn up dolls all around it before. Anyway..back to the story at hand. There's a guy that lives in the neighborhood who is in the army so every 6 months or so he starts running to get ready for the PT test. He's old enough that he probably just skims the pass line to avoid trouble until he gets out. He goes running around 5am. When I was living at home, I'd see him on my way to work. Well one morning I come around a corner and he's just standing there, staring across the street. Right at the curb, in its own yard, is the mutt. I stopped to check on him. He says the dog nipped him on the heels. I talked to him for a sec and then he says its okay for me to leave. I'm no dummy, I watched in the rear view mirror. He walked about 20ft from the mutt's yard and then starts jogging again. Bam! The mutt goes after him. I pulled out my .40 and turned around, fully intent on ending the dog. Then it's owner comes out and gets it under control. I probably shoud have said something but I didn't. Scary thing is this dog lives with young children. I jogged there too so I started carrying my ASP baton b/c I'd seen him stalking me behind houses and through bushes. Next time, I won't hesitate. I see him bothering someone, I'll just shoot him.
If he is feeling lucky, I'll just have to inform him that his luck just ran out. That and he shoulda been born a cat cause he doesn't have any lives to spare.

Several years ago, somewhere around here (Independence, I think) the cops were chasing a perp dude (I guess he would be a "Skell" in New York), and using a canine unit. The perp dude crawled up under a porch, so they sent the dog in to fetch the guy out. It seems the guy wasn't too fond of the dog biting and chewing on his body parts, so he cold-cocked the dog - killed him with one blow to the side of the head. Since then, they changed the law to make it a felony to kill a police dog.
my neighboors 7-8 years ago had a dog, that was part yellow lab, part something else- it was almost the size of a saint bernard. for being part lab this thing looked like it was on steroids.
one winter im walking down the street by myself and i hear that unmistakable sound of dog tags dangling- i look behing me to see it in a full run. i turn around as it jumped and it knocked me down backwards.
im glad i turned around when i did, as now this dog was on top of my stomach and not on top of my back. only option i had was to punch the dog in the jaw / face area with a right hook, and then kick it in the lower stomach area. the dog got off of me and ran off in a hurry- shortly after the neighboors moved out thankfully.
i think thats about the only time ive been attacked. i get customers dogs barking / growling at me all the time. dont ever show fear to a dog. i feel that by me standing firm is what keeps them from coming after me.
the old adage about a dog's bark being worse than it's bite also holds true for humans. ive had big strange dogs start towards me and given them a yell that could wake the dead and it's worked. i think it has something to do with the dog thinking it's their owner yelling.
Got an 8 year old wrot thats really friendly and has never bit/attacked anyone, does good with all the kids around the neighborhood. Its just the owners and how the dogs are treated... we all know that. But she is very defensive of my family and especially me, when im on the comp she usually sleeps (in my room and door is behind me) and when someone besides my family trys to come in shes at the door growling/barking/scaring the "stuff" out of them before they know whats goin on.
Yea ive had some neighbor dogs come at me and my brother showin teeth but a good kick in the head will send em runnin.
Wow, that is the same thing with me. Mine is 2 years old and is very playful, but if you are not to be in the house she will show you a very dertimined side. The funny thing is that she is extreamy protecttive of my son. She was a puppy when he was just one and they have a great bond. His room is in the front of my house and she will sit and watch the street and growl at people that get too close to the home. One time I, er.... she cough someone trying to look in and he was very suprised to see my rottie and me (I am not a small person) looking at him through the window.
When I was in first grade, walking home I got attacked by a German Shepard, without warning. He had attacked a few people before me, but I got it the worse. I was just walking along, heard a noise, and all of a sudden he was on me ripping me apart.
I did not know what was happening and could not defend myself. Another couple of minutes and he would have killed me. Luckily a couple of older girls 96th grade) came and started to bash the dog on the head with their school book bags. Dog was caught and killed later. I was out of school for a few months.
Any animal that draws the blood of man that is not directly protecting an owner, on command, deserves to die. I saw my 110 pound Malamute snap a warning at a child once in my house and he never was around children again and as much as I loved him, if he had bitten her he would have been pushing up daisys.
Just yesterday I was at a gas station filling up my Bronco...( $43.00) This guy pulls up next to me (in another Bronco) and goes inside of the store. I see the attendant out of the corner of my eye go to fill up the truck, and then jump back. He had the fear of God in his eyes. There's an old, BIG black lab in the truck, barking, growling and showing his teeth. He couldn't get out, but if he did, he was going to EAT that attendant. It was one mean looking dog.
I grew up working for a veterinarian and my parents raised German Shephards and Collie's so I have spent alot of time around different personalities of animals and have learned numberous ways to avoid getting attacked, so I am generally not worried about getting attacked even by "mean, viscious" dogs. But the last story reminds me of something I saw the other day. My wife and I were walking out of target and we go to get in the truck and I hear this muffled barking (Big dog in a car) sound and look over to see what is going. Some teenage kid looks scared to walk between two cars. One I assume is his and the other is a Geo Metro with a very large, very ****ed off Saint Bernard. It was the funniest thing I have ever seen. Seeing this dog bouncing around the car, rocking it almost off its tires, and all the windows are buckling. I think the kid thought if it had any room to get some leverage it would have come right through the car.
