Got an 8 year old wrot thats really friendly and has never bit/attacked anyone, does good with all the kids around the neighborhood. Its just the owners and how the dogs are treated... we all know that. But she is very defensive of my family and especially me, when im on the comp she usually sleeps (in my room and door is behind me) and when someone besides my family trys to come in shes at the door growling/barking/scaring the "stuff" out of them before they know whats goin on.

Yea ive had some neighbor dogs come at me and my brother showin teeth but a good kick in the head will send em runnin.

I've worked with quite a few dogs and have been bitten a few times. Got my finger smashed once just playing around. When the bigger ones have got aggressive, I've waved my hands about chest level to get them to go for my chest area. Then do my best to grab the skin on either side of the head to control the teeth - Then knee them in the chest/belly and push them away. Most average dogs this works fine.

I was stationed once with this big, 110# German Shepard in the Army. His name was Crunch and he and his handler stayed in the next room. Sgt. Crunch was originally a guard dog, because of his aggressive tendancies. He was later promoted to drug/munitions sniffer. This doesn't happen often. Guard dogs can be destroyed upon retirement and not cross trained - just too mean. Crunch was very intelligent. Anyway, he got his name from his first trainer, who taught him to go for the groin area. He supposedly had 1 1/2 confirmed, Umm...(kids, look up the difference between a bull and a steer), in his 201 file. I used to lay in bed at night and knock on the wall - just to see the wall rattle when Crunch would hit it full on to try and get to me. I could have never taken that dog on, even with a gun. He was just too smart and experienced. Before I left Egypt, after six months, he let me scratch him behind the ear, while his handler stood braced.

Howdy, that reminds me of my incident with a G.S.....
When I first started dating my wife she had a shepard that must have been a BEAST when he was younger... she had had him since a pup - like 13 years old and he was on his last legs when I first saw him and he was STILL a scary animal.... weighed about 120 THEN ...
He had the hip displacia (sic?) from all the rear squating as they walked training....

I started buying her those expensive Remidal? pills to help with his pain and inflamation - he actually got to where he could run again...
then I started worry, HECK - he could CATCH me now
when I would go out to feed him, he would tolerate that... but I ALWAYS wanted to know where he was before I went into the back yard

After being around for 6 months it got to where he would let me walk around the yard, but I BEST not get between him and my g/f or he would let out a rumble that would make me wet my pants

he was actually fine as long as she wasn't out there - g/f said he was protective... I said he was possesive (of her)

the g/f told me never to try to pet him... and I didn't believe her....
after all he would finally come up to me and be right there with me preparing his food or doing his water bowl ...

so one day we're laying out on the back deck and I tell her to put him on his short lease and set her legs...
I got down to his level and watch his eyes closely and he's cool about it...
so I move in and start easily petting him.. and all's cool

we all start to relax and then I see the eyes darken and he stiffens up and I'm like "OH SHUCKS ! " (not really)
and the earthquake starts in that huge chest with me about 2 inches away from those teeth that still work VERY well !

I look at g/f and dive back as he erupts !!!

He didn't get to me, but I didn't try that ever again !
Went right into the house and changed my pants

What is it with dog owners that think their precious little pet is so innocent? I had been a runner for about 15 years, and experienced around 7 or 8 'attacks'. Wether they were real, or just percieved to be by myself. A few times, I nearly had to give the owner the same treatment as the dog got. I'm talking about being on a sidewalk, or more often, on the street/road. I'll never back down to a dog, and like Rambo, my motto is 'first blood'. And I like dogs!

Man, you walked down 78th Street? The dog should have been a walk in the park compared to the street itself...

it was are local cook out and camping night. we had a big fire going in my back field. my golden was sleeping next to the fire and this little girl (about 8) goes and lies down next to the dog. well it wakes up and bites her right in the face. they ended up sueing us and we had to put down the dog.

My wife was nocking on a door next to our house and when the owner opens it their dog jumps out and bites her in the leg. we wernt planing on doing anything about it but the next day after coming back from dinner we find a $50 bill taped to our door.

I haven't ben actually attacked, but when I was knocking on the door of my fiance's (of the time) friend's house to pick up her daughter, their dog started circling behind and growling. Well, I knew what that meant, so I kept watch, and right about the time she goes for me, I plant a cowboy boot heel in the jaw, sending the dog yipping. Right about that time they answer the door, and said "why did you do that?" "Because she was about to bite me." She always does that." "Well, then she's a lawsuit waiting to happen. I don't tolerate dogs biting me." I have had many dogs over the years, and been around many. I take action when they go for it, whatever I have to do.

My first job was at a large Pet Store. I've been bit by just about everything you can imagine. From cats, dogs, birds to fish, reptiles, and even a horse!

The most memorable time, was when a cute lady walks in with a huge Rotweiler. The dog must have been close if not over 100 lbs. She asked me for help getting the dog a collar. So I approach the dog, she (it was a female dog or a b____) seems fine. I kneel down, and I extend the top of my hand so that she can smell me. She's good, I pet her, no problem. I even take a treat out of my apron and feed it to her, she's smiling and wagging her stump. So everything seems good, I grab the collar, and kneel down to try to fit here ... and rugh! The dog lunges at me, knocks me backward. I immediately skoot backward to get away. I look at my left shoulder cuz it feels hot, and see that the dog took a bite at my left shoulder. She tore through my shirts (I had two on), and grazed my skin. The owner pulled her back which was amazing to see a 110 lb woman pull a dog back that just about weighed as much as her, and the dog calmed right away. I never figured out why she came at me (the dog that is), but I really enjoyed the dinner that I was treated to by the owner

A bit much to get a date...don't you think?

I had a neighbor who had a little mutt puppy...maybe 40 lbs. I was about 10 and playing Jailbreak in the neighborhood (those were the good ol' days). I'm in front of their house on the sidewalk when the owner opens the door to get the mail and the dog bolted out the door after me. I am BOLTING through the neighborhood when the thing catches me, nabs my left arm, then gets me behind the knee. It was funny that it was a mutt puppy doing this.

My next door neighbor had a beast of a Rott. Alex was huge, and a scary looking dog to boot. Him and my little brother practically grew up together (albeit different rates). Jimmy was in Alex's yard, grabbing a stick out of a pile when a bee comes up and stings my brother in the ear. He screams. Alex comes tearing **** around the corner of the yard, straight for Jimmy...Jimmy screams louder. In full sprint, Alex tackles Jimmy, front paws on his shoulders...and proceeds to lick the ear Jimmy was stung on. I never saw anything like it before...it was amazing.

Just like our puppy pit bull (she's such a baby)...it goes to show that all dogs can be docile when respected.

I agree, when I brought my pitbull home, my family practically flipped. His ears were cropped, and he tipped the scales at around 25 lbs. ... not bad for a 3 month old pup. My mother swore Killo (my pit) was the devil's spawn. Until one day she was out sweeping, and killo got out of his dog run, he ran up to her ... and I think she just about fainted when she noticed he had a stick in his mouth wanting to play fetch. Ever since Killo's been part of the family ... to the point that I left home, and killo only gets to come with me for field trips.

I used to work with a guy who rode his bicycle everywhere, and on weekends rode it way out into the country. He carried a hunting knife for protection, but never had to use it. Once he was riding down a county road, 20 miles or so out of town, past a house that set far back off the road. People were out in the yard planting a tree, and their German Shepherd was playing nearby. When it saw my friend, it started to chase him. Seeing that he wouldn't be able to outrun it, he got off his bike and stood with the bike between him and the dog, which usually causes the dog to give up the chase. This dog didn't stop, and when it cleared the fence, my friend pulled the knife. As the dog lunged at him, he braced the knife and ducked behind the bike. The dog landed square on the blade and died almost instantly, never making a sound. My friend wiped the blade off on the dog's hair, then dragged the dog off to the side of the road. All this time, the people in the yard never even looked up, so he got back on his bike and rode off.

A few months later, this same guy bought his first car, and was proudly driving it to work, when a dog ran into the street, and he hit it before he could stop. When the guys at work found out, they got him some dog decals to put on his car door, upside down, for his "confirmed kills."

When i was about 8 years old i was playing street hockey in the alley with a friend and this huge dog (dont remember what kind but it was HUGE) came down the alley and started running at me. I was about to hit the dog with my hockey stick but i fell down and it started biting my leg. I started kicking it with my rollerblades but it kept attacking. Luckily a 19 year old was changing the oil in his mom's car acroos the alley and someone got the dog off me. I still have a few small scars on my right leg.

While out hunting deer a few years ago, a black bear with two cubs happened to come across my path. She leaned back and put her front legs in the air and made a not so friendly sound. I fired a few warning shots her way and she proceeded to get back on all fours and head my way, and she wasn't walking either. I vacated the area quickly; too bad I didn't have a bear tag.
