Show me a picture of what you got and I'll see if I can help you out. My truck came in 250 boxes and no manual supplied by Henry Ford.

Lay out your parts on the ground. Left side parts on left, right on right. If they're greasy they go in the engine bay or underneath, if they're painted they go on the outside, the shiny ones are usually at the bottom and the dull patina ones at the top. After you got it all layout, then partially fit the parts together and then put in boxes in groups. Cab is the biggest part, sit it on the frame and use a drift pin to find bolt holes in the floor and frame, usually take 3 1/2 " X 3/8 carriage bolts. Do a loose fit of cab and frame. Mount fenders to cab and search for frame holes. If you are hitting holes in frame with each new part you put on, then you are on the right track. After you have the basic truck assembled, take it apart, number connect points and remember how they fit. Take pictures as you go along. When you get back down to just the cab and frame you can start to tweak and adjust with rubber mounts, washers, wedges, and wood shims.

You don't need a dig camera or scanner, just buy a throw-a -way camera and take the pictures and have them put on cd and then you can load up the computer. Take pictures and study pictures of similar trucks and components to see how they are mounted. Don't got go modifying thing that you don't understand just because you got them, things like that usually end up looking like something that crawled out of an alley-cat's *** and they are unsafe too!

Good luck on your endeavours. AL

Buy some 1 1/2" o.d. rubber with a 1/2" i.d. hole. slice it up in 3/4" thickness and use it for body mounts to mount your cab and prevent squeaks. Run you 3/8 mounting bolts thru the middle. The extra 1/8 inch will give you a little wiggle room. If you find that you need more of a rake to the cab, raise up the back by using washers to the desired height, then use a piece of hardwood to take up the void, span at least two mounting holes so it remains stationary. Cut a couple of rubber washers a 1/4 " thick and use them between your body and the hardwood filler mount that you made. Check out my gallery on my '40 to see how the cab is mounted to the frame. Mac's (800-777-0948) makes a six piece hardwood body mount kit for about $80. These pieces are rather complicated - the surfaces follow the contours and metal flanges of the underside of the cab. Worth it. Also try Bob Drake (800-2213673) and Gaslight (?).

Sorry to revive such an old thread, but it's useful!

This question is for alittle40, or anybody else who recognizes the photo. I am guessing from the description and other pics in the gallery, that this is pic of the rear cab mount. But from which direction? And what are some other reference points under here that I can relate to? The floor of the cab that I have has been butchered by a previous owner, and I don't have the original frame, so I'm building a new frame. I'm not going after an original look at all, so in reality, I could do whatever I want for mounting, but I'd at least like to know where the original mounts were and such. Thanks!

Dave

Cab Mounts

After looking at the picture several more times, my guess is that the picture is taken from the front looking down the passenger side. The panel above the frame to the left is the cab panel (door frame) running under the door. The channel piece appears to be cut off which should run across the cab. It appears the lower rear cab corner is missing and we are seeing the bed side extending to the rear. (I did this with my glasses on and off !)
