I just purchased a 95 overhead console for my 94 Explorer. I have the pinouts for it and have it working. Problem is I don't know how to work it!
It looks like the compass needs to calibrated. What is the procedure for this? Is there any set up for the temp or anything else?
Thanks
Ray
In a partial answer to the second question regarding the Temperature setup, you will probably have to purchase the ambient air temperature sending unit and install it in front of the rads but behind the grille preferably on the mid-portion of the rad support where it will get lots of fresh air for a more accurate read-out. Once the sender is functional, I expect it will work right off, nothing else to do. I would give you directions on the compass but I am too lazy to go to the truck right now as the manual is in the glove box. Tomorrow I will look it up if you have not already been advised by then.
1. Determine which magnetic zone you are in by reference to the zone map.
2. Press and hold the mode control button until VAR appears in the display, then release. The display should show the current zone number.
3. Press the mode control until the desired zone number appears. The display will then flash and return to normal operation.
CALIBRATION:
1. Press and hold the mode control until CAL is displayed (about 8 seconds) and release.
2.Drive the vehicle slowly in circles < 3mph until the CAL indicator turns off in about 2 or 3 complete circles. This calibration procedure is best performed in an area free of magnetic interference ie large buildings, powerlines, large hunks of IRON and so forth.
Hope this helps...if you tell me you location I can look it up on the compass zone map.
Your location indicates a zone 10 or possibly zone 11 on the rather crude supplied zone map. You are sort of on the edge of zones 10 and 11. Once you get that working the temperature readout could be real interesting. One thing at a time.
