Will '96 Explorer overhead console fit '93?
Hello everyone!
There is a kinda problem with installing an overhead console on my '93 Explorer. I'd like to install it, but I can't find this for first generation Ex. All consoles I've found so far (eBay, junkyards, etc) were for second generation Explorers.
So, the question is: will 95-01 Explorer overhead console fit my '93 Explorer?
In addition, overhead consoles for II generation could be of two types: with power moonroof control, and without power moonroof. Definetely I should look for the one without power moonroof control as I gen Ex's don't have power moonroof at all.
Also, I checked partnumbers for I gen overhead console and II gen overhead consoles. It seems like II gen console chasis numbers differs from I gen ones. But is that possible to install II gen console? Will it fit? Also, there are different part numbers for pre-05/96 and after-05/96 consoles. I am totally stuck with this problem, please help!
With best regards,
Yuri

Thanks for the link! It's really great manual, I appreciate the author for writing such a complete set of instructions. But the fact is, my intention to install the console was inspired exactly by this essay, so I already read it back and forth.
Sadly, I still haven't got any answers, will it fit my Ex or not.
Nevertheless I decided to give it a try, and will order '97 overhead console. Hope will have enough time for installation on Christmas vacations.

Yuri

RE:
Yes it will fit, I have a 91 X and have a 98 Trap door console in it. Mine didn't have the place for the bracket to mount, so I just used some short self tapping screws to mount it to the roof cross beams by the windshield and the one about 8" to 10" back from the windshield. The wiring is explained in the link. My X has the factory non-power sunroof btw. Hope this helps clear eveything up.. Kevin

yes it will i put a over head console for a 98 x in my 91 x and fit great and works fine but if you go to the junk yard and pull a 96 overhead console the wire codes ar wrong the collors ar differant than what that website put up by AZExplorer4by
you will have to get the mounting bracket and the temp sensot for it all to work and the wireing harnnss as long as you can get it
this website will tell you how to put it in fully step by step it took me 2 days to fine this
it is for a ranger but will fork for explorers
http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...=296394&page=3
also if you read under the wireing page you have to use the speed sensor wire or the temp will go down but not up that was my problem until i found this site and i hooked it up under the dash above the glove box on the wiring harness of the cruise control computer
here is the site for that

Thank you guys! That's exactly what I wanted to know!
I already learned that console must come along with a mounting bracket. Having a temp sensor is a plus, but it's not a vital part, I can acquire it later, at the dealer's store for instance. It seems that wiring harness is not necessary at all, you can always lay new cables yourself without much effort.
And thanks again for the links, they are more than helpful. Then console arrive in Moscow (it should take at least three weeks to ship, I suppose), I'll start working on it.
I will tell you about the results of the installation. Hope everything will go just fine. Though I am not so good with electric, my mechanic is great. So with his help hope we'll succesed.
With best regards,
Yuri
