FWIW, last weekend with my mods, and the TB I added, I was able to muster 15 mpg out of my F-150 Super Crew going down the interstate @ 80 mph for the duration of the whole tank with only stopping once to use the water closet. It was about 55 deg F and virtually no wind, and hilly terrain for the majority of the trip.

throttle body spaces increase air turbulance and air fuel mixture u dont get much of a gain in performance cause they only work their fullest at WOT. mine gaves me better fuel economy by 1-2mpg and larger throttle bodies give u 15-20% more air flow. but polishing ur plenum and intake will help. but if u polish intake and plenum u will need a throttle body spacer. cause the intakes and plenums are rough for a reason for air turublance for proper air fuel mixture. following me still i'm trying to put it pretty plain. while throttle body spacers can make a annoying noise there isnt much performance increase but it is noticable. and on ebay u can find people who make em in their machine shops and sell em for 50-60 bucks. i got my poweraid name brand one for 77 bucks last year.

Results of my throttle body spacers

After talking to a few people who really know their stuff about engines, it was decided that for 5.4L(or a 4.6 for that matter), you would need at least 2 inches and maybe close to 3 inches of spacer to make a reasonable difference. So that is what I did. I bought two cheap spacers off of ebay(they have the vortex thing in them, but I might get rid of that later) and picked up a couple extra long screws from a local hardware store. Installation was not any more difficult(I did have some problems fitting my BBK intake back on afterward though).
The biggest things I noticed after giving the computer some time to relearn was the whistling sound(what a terrible sound!) and much better throttle response. Any power differences were not noticable by the seat of the pants dnyo anyway. If I get the chance, I'll get a 0-60 or a quarter mile time. Oh yeah, I have a 97 5.4L F150 with borla exhaust and bbk cold air intake.

Yeah, the whistling was so annoying I am selling mine. I will take the worse mileage any day to that horrible sound.

if u stick u use a plastic intake tube and use an airbox the sound will be muffled and u can barely hear it. but i think its cool on mine if u hold the throttle right it sounds like a turbo spooling up. i foch with some ricers all the time just drive past em and have it hissing. always a joy to see some idiot stick their head out the window with a confused look on their face

I have a 99 f150 with a 5.4l v8 added a helix power tower throttle body spacer and noticed a performance increase but had an annoying whistling sound, however not so terrible that I couldn't live with it, then added a 75mm throttlebody and noticed yet another increase in power and the whistling noise is not as loud infact it is very faint and is not annoying at all.
