2000 Explorer 4X4 problem

2000 Explorer 4X4 problem
The 4X4 HI and 4X4 LO indicator lights flash simultaneously but intermittently on the dash. In making tight turns, it seems the 4X4 is trying to engage. Anyone had any experience with this problem?

If you have the "AUTO" 4x4 like my '99, try disconnecting your battery for an hour or so and then reconnect it. That will reset all the little sensors and the ECU unit. You have to drive around at verying speeds for about 20min to help the ECU relearn its settings. Hope that helps.

If the lights come back on after Splashman's suggestion, you probably have a faulty speed sensor in the transfercase. It is failing, which is causing the system to think your tires are slipping. Therfore it is putting you into 4x4. Is it still under warranty? If so, let Ford deal with it if the lights come back on after resetting the computer.
