Distributor almost there, I think.

Ok I've gotten to the point where about everything in my ignition is new...plugs, dist cap, rotor, pertronix ignitor, distributor, coil. at tdc on compression stroke, rotor facing #1 plug wire on cap. Still won't fire. Doesn't have the same popping through the carb problem as before, only a little. Any other minor instructions for getting the engine fired? Should I keep the vac advance connected?

Hmmm nevermind just redid everything again and it fired right up. I suppose I could have been confusing the exhaust stroke with the compression stroke the whole time before, but I'm not sure. Anyways, thanks for all your help.

nope everytime it points to number one on the dizzy its the comp stroke. Like i said earlier you need to advance the dizzy 1 tooth when installed. Then when its tightened down it retards back a tooth and is right on. Otherwise you will be a tooth retarded and will have popping and such. Good luck!

Thanks, I got it fired up and running now....but I'm havin a little getting the timing all figured out. Engine is stock besides edelbrock streetmaster and carter afb 600, pertronix ignitor. What should I set the timing at? Don't need to adjust the idle at all do I?? Didn't change it from what it was before..

timing some around 10 to 14 btdc. Now if if idle is quite a bit higher than before you are a tooth advanced and if the idle is lower you are retarded.

Thanks ill set the timing somewhere in that range. By a tooth off, you mean the rotor was not facing the #1 wire at tdc?
