Hey all,
This is my first post on FTE. I have a 1998 F-150 4.2L V6 5spd. I recently replaced the stock stereo head unit with a JVC head unit. The quality is MUCH higher and am very happy about the sound. However, during the install of the stereo (which was a pain), I took off the A/C controls to give myself more room. Well, after reassembling the front of the dash, I noticed that the A/C was not working. The "panel" vents (the ones that point at the driver and passenger) did not work, while on any setting the air was directed towards the defroster vents. Also, on some settings (not sure which since I haven't fully investigated), the floor vents came on in addition to the defroster vents (probaly the ones where the floor vents are supposed to come on). I disassembled the dash again to get to the A/C controls to ensure that I reconnected the plugs to the ***** correctly. I did... Anyways, I can not figure out what the problem is. I'd appreciate any help/advice. Thanks in advance.
Hi, and welcome to FTE. There are many people here with a broad range of knowledge...
It sounds as though you have a vacuum line off/cracked in there. The default setting is defrost, in the absence of vacuum. Check to make sure you didn't pull one loose at a connection. You might be able to hear a leak if you listen closely enough.
Man, do I feel like an idiot. One of the connector wires to the A/C controls fell down through open space underneath the readio. I found it and reconnected and the "panel" vents work fine again. What an embarrassing way to introduce myself to a forum.
