Overdrive light blinking but no codes
I have a 2001 F-250 7.3 powerstroke diesel and my overdrive button was flashing after i worked it alittle when i had to pull my wife out of the snow. The trans temp was about 134 degrees so i let the truck sit for about ten minutes to cool down then turned it off and back on to see if it changed and it did. The light stopped flashing. Did i just over heat it or is something seriously wrong?
Thanks
i took the truck for spinn this morning and everything seems to be fine.
the DSS sensor ,should i change it or let it alone?
First a little history on my deductive thinking. Last year we were having trouble with my daughter's Zuki GV and stalling running sputtering... Long story short after trying everything that would be obvious including the cat we discovered water had accumulated in the OBC because the A/C drain tube was clogged with a dead insect... The intermittency of her problem was because no A/C use = dry OBC = no problem then run the A/C awhile = problem...
Fast forward to today... 2 days ago I went out to my driveway and found my remote control would not open the door locks or function at all. While approaching my truck I heard the radio playing and noticed the clock display was on? After unlocking the door and entering the key in ignition chime would not turn off after the key was removed and the door was ajar. Prior to these discoveries while driving earlier that same day I noticed my OD light blink but my tranny was shifting and functioning fine. Last but certainly not least the Service Engine Light soon lit up!!!
As anyone can imagine I immediately started checking fuses, relays and wiring harnesses / connections, all which appeared to have no issues. Next I pulled and cleaned the ignition key cylinder and no change in the issues. Backing up a little last month I replaced the shift lever with O/D but and wire due to the original having been chafed beyond repair so I next removed the steering column covers to inspect the wiring and connections there to no avail - no problem.
Hmm, so now I'm stumped and I turn to the internet... After reading several posts, comments, suggestions and frustrations I called it a night.
Today I proceeded to enter the truck and noticed there was a little puddle of water that had accumulated on the dash panel fuse box access cover I had left laying on the drivers side floor.

Upon further investigation I discovered the drip evidently was comming from above the fuse panel and guess what is above the fuse panel????

Bingo the OBC and it appears that somehow water from the downpoor we had the day before has seeped into that black box...

Anyone who knows anything about electronics and water knows the two do not get along well!!! I took pictures. Now the question is how and where did the water get there???
The moral of the story; If funny things start happening that appear to be electrical in nature then before you start replacing components or tearing down trannys look for water in places it doesn't belong!!!
Thanks go out to the little blue Zuki GV my daughter so obligingly allowed to be our ginnea pig a year before....
Just a follow up thought;
I am now wondering if this has been a prolonged issue creating intermittent operational problems that appeared to be failing coil packs, dirty spark plugs, bad fuel, failing injectors et.. et.. et...
As I rewind in my mind and think about times when it appeared I was getting a misfire in my V10 I wonder if it was a coil pack or the result of water / moisture penetration since the issues with rough idle and or misfires allways seemed to appear after or during winter or wet rainy days???
Hmmm, pondering the possibilities of a small issue creating big problems across a wide spectrum of modern vehicle technology. One day it's there and the next day it's gone... Climbing uphill under acceleration and the A/C running switchs damper door to defrost vents instead of dash vents, door ajar warnings, airbag SRS warning lights, inaccurate speedometer as compared to GPS speed tracking and maybe the inaccurate fuel guage which still has 8 gallons of fuel on below empty and 0 miles to empty....
My oh my the possibilities are infinate!!! Lions and Tigers and Water in my OBC?

The water is coming in around your windshield. That needs to be checked and fixed. There many threads of electrical issues that have been traced to water coming from under the dash. The vast majority of the water is coming form leaking windshield rubber. If you do not get it fixed now, the next time that you are driving in the rain your truck my start doing all types of screwy things.
