Question Stuck in 4 Wheel Low!!

I have a 2004 F350 5.4 liter and its stuck in 4 wheel low. I was backing up a 36' 5th wheel trailer and shifted it into low so that I would have better control. After I unhooked and switched back to 2 wheel it doesent want to shift in. Has anyone else ever had this problem? I only have 4,000 miles on the truck. I have tried driving in reverse while I have it switched onto 2 wheel and still nothing. I even got out and turned the hubs to lock position drove a little bit and then switched them back to auto to see if that would work but nothing. Any suggestions would be appreciated greatly. -Fritz

I guess you have ESOF?
Don't panic. Get in your truck and twist the **** to 4WD low (if it isn't already). Then drive to level ground and shift the tranny to neutral. With your foot on the brake, turn the **** to 4WD High and let it set for a minute. If it doesn't shift, turn the **** back to 4WD low. Kill the engine.
After a couple of minutes, repeat above.

If it still refuses to shift, put your tranny in gear, kill the engine and climb underneath to where the servo motor plug is located. Unplug it, clean and dry and reconnect it. Then repeat the step all over again.

These things are a headache sometimes and need to be energized at least 2 or 3 times a week.

Let us know.

Just go through the motions is all it takes. Just to get the system "familiar" with "itself".
You can let it cycle in your front yard, sitting still if you want to, or in the parking lot waiting for your wife in WMart.

Somehow - if you don't - it seems to forget what to do.

I energize the ESOF in my truck at least 3 times a week. Tuesday morning before going to work, Thursday evening when coming home, then once on the weekend.

Usually, though, I use the 4WD quite alot on weekends.

ON EDIT: If you're having trouble with it, I would cycle it two or three times a day for a while until it learns what to do.

I gotcha. No problem here since i use 4x4Hi on a daily basis for work.
On another note, i got my COP problem resolved. There is a posetive feed wire for the COPs in the harness on top of the mintake manifold.I had rubbed it so severly from logging roads and continious dirt that it was shorting out and taking out a COP .

Was it in the sheath or an exposed wire?

Anyway - thanks for the feedback. We could use alot more of it.

In the sheath. They also added a black plastic 1/2" hose on the entire harness with Zip ties. They are hoping this will keep the harness from getting rubbed with dirt and sand . The best part the Dealer only charged me $87.00 Cnd for what they did.The COP was N/C. As far as i'm concerned my truck could not be any better if this was the fix it needed the whole time.It was not related to anything Ford did , but what I do with my truck to make a living.

I wish there was a way to keep the mud from flinging inside the front bumper and sliding around and filling the powersteering cooler with crud.

I guess you're proving that the SD's really are Ford Tough, huh?

....except for those darn little wires that have given you a headache for so long....

Maybe a plastic dam screwed to the frame rail and fitted to the inside of the bumper?
I'll have to look at that a little closer. I have found a 5 gallon pail full of mud in there before.

Not to take up all your time but, what is the best way to make the power mirror switch control last in a dusty environment?
