i found a product in a catalog i wont say the name of the catalog but it rhymes with "eggs". the kit is titled "crane cams ford drop-in roller rocker conversion."
it runs about $180.00, and im just wondering if its worth it and whats involved in the conversion. anyone have one of these installed? my engine only has 7000 miles on it but hey power is power, and more power is more power right?
The Scorpions are very straight forward. The rockers come with a pedestal and bolt. You simply put the bolt through the rocker and pedestal and torque it down. They come with .020 shims so that if you have decked the head or block you can get the proper preload on the lifters.
thank you, this one sound like its right up my alley. im not a mechanic but i bolt and unbolt automation systems together all day. my engine is stock so i hope that simplifies things a bit.
I called crane before and got the parts numbers
5/16 pushrod uses 52655-16
3/8 pushrod uses 35655-16
The kits come with little guideplates and rocker studs. I don't think they need hardened pushrods but i would check that out. Or as i am doing on my cleveland heads is to mill the mounts down to boss spec but this is only needed for racing applications.
The conversion kit is $80 and a set of crane energizer roller rockers $196. Harland roller rockers are $210. those are about the cheapest or you can go on ebay and buy some australia roller rcokers for $165 or so.

To keep a nice stable valve train it is best to stick with the pedestal mount roller rockers. Lots cheaper too. No use to take a step backwards to cheby style "wobble rockers". I know Ford uses them to on some engines, -I just don't like them. Some guide plates have plastic inserts so hardened pushrods are not required. Of course that little plastic part will break soon and then your rocker arm will be flopping all over b4 all hell breaks loose. Wobble rockers with guide plates rub the roller tip sideways back and forth across the valve loosing half of what you wanted the roller for in the first place.
the conversion kit keeps the pedestal mount roller rockers but they are not recommended for high performance use. So then the hardened pushrods, guide plates, and "whobble" rockers need to be used.
