My friend thinks JL is the best thing since sliced bread. When I first got my truck he suggested I take it there, and gave me a $5 off coupon.Wow,$5 off,how could I go wrong? Got down there and all I saw was 4 kids, about 16 years old, doing the oil changes.I knew there was gonna be trouble. They pull in my truck, pop the hood, and start putting stuff in the computer.I noticed the filter one kid got for my truck did not match mine.I asked, what ya doing with that filter? He said it was for my truck! I told him he better look again. He said, this is the one for the 4.6,in your truck.I told him it was the 4.2V6.He says, according to you VIN its a 4.6.I physically pointed out to him the 6 spark plugs, the 6 wires, and the cover over the throttle body that read "4.2".The idiot still said,I dont care about all that;the computer says 4.6 so thats what filter it gets! I then closed my hood and got the f*** out of there!
Blue Oval, I beleive you! These JL and similar quick lube joints are what I like to refer to as "jack of all oil changes, masters of none!" Your experience is icing on the cake. Personally, my gripe is these JL "geniuses" who insist on tightening the oil pan bolt, much too tight. No reason to need a breaker bar extension to remove the pan bolt on the next oil change. Engines that call for 4.5 quarts to refill, when the oil filter is changed, yet they put in 5 quarts, regardless. Oily, grimey, black oil prints all over the new filter. Picky, maybe, but I don't like it. I pity the soccer moms in their SUV Suburbans and Excursions, who know jack sqat about proper maintenace. Senior citizens too, at the mercy of JL service "experts". Oil filters that aren't changed, but if they happen to be a JL part already, they receive the Windex and paper towel "quick clean" to make it appear changed, and a new filter. (Had a neighbor that put a small "X" with a Sharpie marker on the filter. Wife took their Chevy Tahoe in to JL. The next Saturday morning, the neighbor crawls under the truck with a bright flashlight, sees a much cleaner JL oil filter, but there is the small "X" mark, plain as day. True story my friend) No, I do my own oil and filter changes. Simple job I know is done right, better lubricants, not "bulk" or "recycled oil" and done at a fraction of JL's "Signature Series" cost!
screw jiffy lube. my moms not good at changing her oil. i changed it at 3000 with mobil 1 full synthetic and mobil 1 oil filter for 50 bucks and it has 16,000 and she still hasnt changed it. surpsriginly, it still runs good.
Having done such a good job of changing it for her (with great products) at 3000 miles, I'm surprised you've allowed her to put that many miles on it without changing it for her again at least two or three times. Mobil 1 is GREAT, but not meant to go so many miles between changes. Of course, since it is HER vehicle, she should see to it that the oil is changed at necessary intervals, without you having to worry about it.
Years ago, I knew a guy who owned a produce stand back home, he bought a new Lincoln Town Car from my Uncle who owned a Ford/Lincoln/Merc dealer at the time. He brought it back in for a cleaning and service (oil change) at 48k miles - its FIRST oil change. Yes the car was still running under its own power - HOWEVER - just because a car is still running while being abused, doesn't mean that damage is not being done.
