Never used one. I just bought a box of cow magnets for treating hardware disease and stuck them to my filters. I take the magnet off and switch it to the new filter and the best part is they are cheap.
I have seen them but not used them. Remember also that allot of wear metals that will be in your oil aren't ferrous metals. A magnetic plug in your oil pan may do as well for the most part.
An old speaker magnet is usually round and fits real nice on the bottom of the oil filter. Best part is you probably have an old speaker that you can get the magnet for free.
Hard Drive magnets work well and are stronger than anything you will buy. When i cut open my last one, i saw nothing where the magnets were. If the wear metals arent ferrous, they probably arent much danger anyway. Its a killer way to get people to spend lots of dough on what i would say a lot of cars already have working in the oil pan, the magnetic drain plug.
