I was just wondering, sorry for sounding so stupid about this topic, but i heard from somebody that ford actually makes cummings, they just arent allowed to put them into the ford trucks because of monopoly so now they have a contract with dodge to build the cummings diesels. Is this true or is it some rumor? any one with facts on this?
At one time, Ford owned a small portion of Cummins but they no longer own any portion of Cummins. If you go to Cummins website you will see that they actually answer that question in their FAQ.
I hope you weren't basing that on my sarcastic posts in the "powerstroke most durable engine" thread. That was a joke.

In today’s economy and the continued diversity of companies it seems they all own a part of some one else….it is the way of business now days…just IMO
Here is a rumor I need answered. My grandad told me that by 2005 Ford will be offering the PowerStroke, Cummins, and a 470 R.W. HP 8.2L Mitsubishi diesel. We already know that 2005 is not the year, but I was wondering if this might happen sometime in the future.
I doubt it. BTW, you can get a Cummins in a Ford, but it's only available in the F650/750. Dodge has a contract with Cummins for exclusive use of their diesel engines in light duty trucks until 2007.
Are you sure you're not thinking of the C7 Caterpillar???
Ford has had the cat and the cummins for years on the 650s and 750s. Now international is building the 650s and 750s and I dont think they want to install cummins engines. Im sure they are putting together something so they can stick the 466 in rather than the cummins. In fact I read something about it. If I had a choice 466 or the cummins. It would be 466 hands down. International makes great medium duty diesels. Made the best medium duty gassers ever put in a truck.
A friend of mine runs a 466 and another runs the 530. Both are torque monsters. Capable of pulling way more than the trucks can handle. Extremely reliable. Ones in a roadrunner the other is in a 4700 chassis.
Yes, I have also heard great things about the International DT-466 and HT-530, they just need to apply some of that "great stuff" right on down to the VT-365......

Different app. Different design. Now they are manufacturing a v6. Downsized version of the vt 365.

No, I heard it from my grandad. I didn't believe it, I just wanted to see what you thought.
BTW, Ford owns Mitsubishi, so it would be possible to get the engine, But I don't think you could fit it in a pickup.
Well, Consumer Reports is wrong. Dodge is nothing more than a division of Chrysler. Chrysler owns a minority share of Mitsubishi (far less than 70%), but Dodge doesn't own anything.
That would be like saying Mercury owns a portion of Mazda.

You mean Daimler right?
Chrysler and Mitsubishi, which is 37 percent controlled by DaimlerChrysler AG, are cooperating on developing cars as they reorganize and cut costs to regain profitability. Schaum estimates the companies could save between $1 billion and $1.2 billion with joint engineering of small and mid-sized cars.
Looks like mitsubishi is unprofitable and DC is about to dump it on its ear. Chrysler is the third largest auto manufacturer in the US, duh and Mitsubishi is the fourth largest in japan. Mitsubishi heavy and two other groups own 23 percent of the company. Daimler is not happy about having to carry chrysler and mitsubishi on its back.
