Chrysler was going bankrupt. Bad managment had run it into the ground. They went from once the best selling truck to a small percentage of the market. Mercedes seeking to become a global company bought 60%. They call it a merger but hostile takeover would probably be more appropriate. They call chrysler equals but on the headquarters they do not display the emblem of chrysler. Further seeking to expand they bought a portion of mitsubishi. Mitsubishi is near bankrutpcy as we speak. It was a poor investment.
The answer is cummins makes cummins. Always has. Ford bought about 15% around the time it was up for renegotiation with intl. They stayed with intl and dumped the cummins stock. I had heard that chrysler and ford were competing for cummins business at the time and chrysler had outbid ford. Dont know if there is any validity to the statement though.
No, they aren't. The Daimler/Chrysler deal was a merger of equals. The two companies merged to become the DaimlerChrysler Corp. Chrysler is no more owned by Mercedes than Mercedes is owned by Chrysler. They simply joined forces to become one company.
I use the word subsidiaries for lack of a better term, and shouldn't this be discussed on the who owns whom thread?
[QUOTE=jpjshy13]I was just wondering, sorry for sounding so stupid about this topic, but i heard from somebody that ford actually makes cummings, they just arent allowed to put them into the ford trucks because of monopoly so now they have a contract with dodge to build the cummings diesels. Is this true or is it some rumor? any one with facts on this?[/Q UOTE] but not any more
I am not sure if Ford ever owned stock in Cummins, not sure on that, but the Cummins is American, and Dodge is German. That's how it is.
At one time Ford did own a portion of Cummins, but they never owned a controlling percentage. Now they own 0% of Cummins as confirmed on the Cummins website.
