Well, Consumer Reports is wrong. Dodge is nothing more than a division of Chrysler. Chrysler owns a minority share of Mitsubishi (far less than 70%), but Dodge doesn't own anything.
That would be like saying Mercury owns a portion of Mazda.
Well, you're wrong, Chrysler is nothing more than a division of Daimler Chrysler. Chrysler doesn't own anything.

Oh great plethora of automotive knowledge, given that the name of the parent company is DiamlerChrysler, that Chrysler owned it's share of Mitsubishi prior to the merger, and that Chrysler is still considered the parent company of the American divisions (Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep), yes, you can safely say that Chrysler owns a share of Mitsubishi.
You could say that, but you'd be wrong. By your very own smarty standards, you could also safely say that Dodge owns a part of Mitsubishi. I don't still consider Chrysler the parent company, I don't care which continent, they're a foreign automaker now, and Chrysler doesn't own anything.

Don't make assumptions, you know what happens when you assume don't you?
The situation with Chrysler & Mitsubishi is this. Chrysler Corp. owned what ever part of Mitsubishi it owned before Diamler bought them. When Diamler bought them, then Chrysler retained their stock in Mitsubishi. The best way I can explain it is like a marriage, for lack of a better example. You own your truck, your wife has her car/truck whatever it is. You get married, the truck is still yours, the car is still hers. You don't swap, take, move, or do anything to the other's property unless it is agreed upon by both sides. Diamler would not force Chrysler to sell its stock in Mitsubishi, because it did not own it to begin with. Mitsubishi is one of the fastest growing car brands anyway, why would they want to kill it off?? They are stepping up to the plate though with their warranty and service programs, it's hard to beat 100,000 miles of protection on a gasoline engine. Somebody would be bound to "test" that warranty right at 99,999.9 miles.
Now as far as the foreign influence on Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep??? Yes, they have been influenced by the German part in design, but I do not think they have gone awash or astray from their original intentions, goals or ambitions. If anything, the foreign influence is helping them. The quality is up (got to admit it, we'd all be lying if we didn't), sales are up, and service is improving. In fact, I think they love what the foreign part has done for them. It's making them money, making better vehicles, and keeping the name alive.

MW95 is right. I was off with my 25% in my first post, but it is Chrysler that owns Mitsu, that did not change with the merger. Dodge is only affiliated with Mitsu because they are somewhat of a partial sister company under the parent company of Chrysler. Yes, DiamlerChrysler is the parent company over everything, but that doesn't mean the old Chrysler and it's holdings just up and vanished.
Daimler was seeking to become a global company when it acquired chrysler. After it aqcuired chrysler, 98 I think. Daimler invested more money to get controlling interest in mitsubishi. 33.4% is controlling interest in japan. http://money.cnn.com/2000/03/27/worldbiz/daimler/ This is the internet. With this resource at our fingertips everyone pops off with their opinion but nobody takes the time to look.
The shareholders are looking for the ceos head for getting them into bed with these two LOOSERS. Mitsubishi is a money pit. They paid 450 yen a share in double aught. Those shares are worth about 217 yen today. Good investment?

No, they aren't. The Daimler/Chrysler deal was a merger of equals. The two companies merged to become the DaimlerChrysler Corp. Chrysler is no more owned by Mercedes than Mercedes is owned by Chrysler. They simply joined forces to become one company.
