I have a 1996 E350. I have been having engine trouble and I was told the 1996 vans had a problem with water leaking into the engine compartment from the driver's side windshield area, then it drips right on the ECU. So I took the ECU out and sure enough, it had about a 1/4 cup in there. I drained the water out, cleaned up the board, and put it back in. Now it won't run at all. Do the ECM's have to be reprogrammed or do I have junk?
I would guess that it's probably a goner... You may be able to find one at a junkyard (There are several yards around here that specialize in late model vehicles now), or maybe on e-bay, but you may have to bite it and go to the dealer...

i just checked on a ford parts web site and they listed the ecm for your van at like $40.00. that sounds real cheap to me but you might want to check it out
