L99 vs 2000 ecu
Both trucks have different ecu codes.
Can I take my 2000 ecu and put in my L99.
Another question.
When was the diode in trans a problem. I have an 01 with blown motor and was going to do the ecu shuffle. I want to send out an ecu to get reflashed, put one with the DP tuner in my L99 and the other one in my 2000 temporarily.
Should I reflash the L99 or the 01 ecu.
I'm not sure at all, but I believe PMT codes are interchangeable, VDH codes are interchangeable, etc... Curious to find out as well. I'm probably completely wrong.
Best bet is to call the tuner company of choice to find out, as they know more about what programs are on each ECM, and what it will accept.
Somewhere there is a list of all codes. I think it's buried deep in the "what's up with DP Tuner Tunes?" Thread. I'll see if I can find it.
My 2002 has a VDH3, my 2003 had a VDH5. I'm hoping my chip will work on the new truck without a reprogram, but still waiting to find out. They look very close according to the list, I'm betting its just minor differences in stock tuning between them.

I'm 650 miles from the trucks right now, just trying to figure it out before I get there for the holiday.
Then hoping I can get the idm out of the downed truck do I can do the 140v mod and do the switcher-roo without any downtime of my other truck.
Ill read the posted links. See what I can find.
Thanks guys
Mechanical Diode Tranny Build Dates
2001 vehicles equipped with 4R100 transmission, having a transmission build date between
7/27/2000 and 3/23/2001.
Roland (mueckster) 04-15-2008
The trans does have its own build date located on the tag on the trans case (left side ,rear).
4th line down should show BD- #Letter##. This is the build date year/ month/ day.
Example : BD-1D28 1=2001 D=April (A=Jan, B=Feb...12=Dec) 28=Day of Month.
Using his example tranny Build Date is Jan 28, 2001

The mechanical diode was in the diesels from the start of 2001 model year (July, 2000) and left production in March, 2001.

If anyone is still interested, the "mechanical diode" was the replacement for the one way roller clutch previously (Intermediate one way clutch) used in the E4OD and 4R100s. After Ford found out that the diode wouldn't work in the gasser trucks (they exploded when shifted at 5300 RPM), they decided that they should stick with the proven and slightly more robust design. It is a mechanical device that allows rotation in one direction but not the other. It is used for the 1-2 shift when in drive range. When the "diode" was used, it replaced the roller clutch with a sprag that is inherently weaker. High power/high RPM 1-2 shifts are what kills the intermediate one way in the diesels.

The gas engine trucks blew up the diode at 4600 RPM if the driver lifted his right foot just as the WOT 1-2 shift started, then put it right back on the floor. The person that discovered this was able to do it on 100% of the trucks he tried it on. That's why they left it in the diesels, they couldn't run 4600 RPM.

I have 3-4 trucks I'm working with to mix and match parts on. I'm trying to swap stuff around to upgrade 2 of them without having the downtime. Especially where Jody at DP tuning is shut down for holiday (I think)
Ill post ecu codes this weekend. I hope.
