Ok, they just placed anything under 10500 gvwr under the scrutiny of having your tailpipe probed. My truck is an 02 with 68k on it so I don't really have to worry yet, except for the hassle. Hate it for guys who have chipped, exhausted and beefed up powerstrokes.
But my problem is, I was planning on driving this truck until it's final cough or close to it. Was thinking about the chip and exhaust once warranty died. Will I be facing the same problems at 200k as a gasser would be having them sniff my black smoke?
It depends on your local laws. In some places, like Colorado, they actually put the truck on a dyno, and run it through a cycle that simulates driving. Here in Washington, they merely put an opacimeter on the tailpipe, have you rev the engine three times, and measure the amount of smoke you put out. The limit here is 40%. The last time I was tested, I did 1.5%.
If they're measuring for smoke, just pull the chip before the test, and be sure the truck is fully warmed up when you go in. You shouldn't have any trouble.

or do like i did and get a flip chip with a stock setting. so when you go do the test you just set the chip to stock(although i did pass the test with a 100 hp chip in it)
