I don't see my temp guage registering proper temp. I grounded out the wire from the sending unit and the guage moved to about 3/4 pegged. Replaced sending unit. Still no movement. What is normal operating temp of the 223?
As to my steering wheel adjustment I adjusted the column up to a presentable tollerence but noticed shifting smoothness had deteriorated so I let the column fall backto original position. Will continue to fuss with it a bit today.
So glad I found this forum. The responces have been great and ther is a world of info here - especially for a non gear-head like myself. Thanks Guys.
If you grounded it and it didn't go all the way up, the guage is lazy or bad. Did you replace the constant voltage regulator behind the dash? You can get them thru NAPA. Those regulate a constant 6V to the guage. Usually when they go bad, all the guages will "spike" on and off. If your guages are acting fine and just the temp guage is acting up, I'd replace it, Make sure your bushings in your shift levers, tranny levers are good. They will wear into a particular spot and if you raise the column jacket as you did, they are now out of that wear pattern and will bind on you. The lower socket where the shift rods connect to the levers there also will wear. As I remember it's aluminum and will wear.
Teflon tape does not cancel the ground. The pipe threads are much stronger and cut through the tape so there is metal to metal contact. The tape acts both as a lubricant to seat the threads further and to act as a void filler.
