Temperature Sending Unit

The temp guage in my 94 Ranger is stone cold, though I do get heat. Where is the location of the temperature sending unit?

Thanks.

i'm having a simular problem with my 96 Ford F150, staying dead cold. although its getting hot, the local garage here told me to replace the Coolant Censor, but I also cannot find it.

fordtruckfan90 ,

Thanks very much. That is where I suspected it might be located.

Depends on the engine, but it is normally close to the thermostat housing (maybe mounted on the intake). Becareful, though, there is also a ECT sensor close to it.
The gauge temp sensor will have a 1 wire connector, the ECT sensor will have a 2 wire connector...you want to replace the sensor with the 1 wire connector..

on the 302's it is behind the compressor by the distributor. plan at least 1 1/2 hrs to do it on a 302. to check your guage to make sure it is the sending unit, have someone sit in the truck with the key on (not running) and ground out the wire for the sending unit to the cylinder or something (you may need an aligator clip wire or something) and when you ground it out it should peg to hot. if it doesn't peg and probably if it does use a mechanical guage.don't hold it grounded for more than like 1 sec or the guage will smoke
