Speedo/odometer troubles

I have a 89 ford f150 4X4. The only thing I hate about it is the odometer and mph gauges don't work. Does anyone know of how I can fix these? I am under the impression that they hook up on the tranny but where? Thanks.

There is a cable that attaches to the tailshaft of the transfer case. The cable could be broken too. Also check to be sure that it is attached to the back of the instrument cluster as well.
