I am attempting to install the two latches on my tailgate, but the fit between the latch and gate is very loose, about 1" in play betwee tne two. I am using aftermarket stainless latches that match a set of originals. I have placed a picture in my gallery. Thank you for any help

 

By the looks of your pic, you hace the chain on backwards as the rubber bumper should be against the tailgate and it looks like the tailgate flange is pulled out of shape, I could be wrong but all my stock stuff is that way...bent out of shape and loose.
