PayPal Lawsuit?????

Hey FTE, I just got an email from Paypal, stating that I may eligible for payment in a Class Action lawsuit against Paypal. Being of the legal profession, the most I could get out of it, was that Paypal has gone against some of its own policies and violated some peoples right in regard the their Electronic Funds Tranfers (EFT) and if you have had or have an account within certain dates you are automatically entitled. You must submit a claim or submit an exclusion form. Failure to do either pretty much eliminates you from particiapation in this or any other future lawsuits in regards to EFT.

The only thing I could think about was, should I do it??? Then I realize how many people are going to even though they have never been wronged themselves. I couldn't do that, I've never had a problem, I can't make a quick buck like that.

What do you guys think. Here's the link:

Yeah - I got that one as well - I questioned it as I thought it might be a farce, but Paypal sent me the following reply:
************************************************** ********
Thank you for bringing the "Notice of Pendency of Class Action and Proposed
Settlement¨ email to our attention. We can confirm that PayPal sent this
email. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

On June 11th, 2004 PayPal entered into a Settlement Agreement with Girard
Gibbs & De Bartolomeo LLP and Wolf Popper LLP for a lawsuit filed in 2002
on behalf of a class alleging that PayPal did not appropriately communicate
about customer transactions and did not appropriately process limits that
were placed on some customer accounts. In this agreement, PayPal does not
acknowledge that any of the allegations in the case are true and entered
into the Settlement Agreement to avoid further costs of litigation, and to
devote resources to more productive areas of our business

PayPal's employees and subsidiaries can not provide information or legal
advice in relation to the class action lawsuit and proposed settlement. You
may seek additional information about the settlement from the attorneys for
the class. They can be reached via email or by first class mail at:

paypalsettlement(AT)settlement4onlinepayments(DOT) com

Girard Gibbs & De Bartolomeo LLP
601 California Street, Suite 1400
San Francisco, California 94108

Wolf Popper LLP
845 Third Avenue
New York, NY 10022

Additionally, you can obtain more information at
http://www.settlement4onlinepayments.com
************************************************** ********
I am not sure what to do myself - my only problem with it is that if it is successful, it may cause an increase in PayPal fees to pay for it, which is not good.
It is like when some one sues a city - sure they get a big cash settlement, but they never stop to think that it was taxpayer money they got.
Oh-well. Time to think I guess.

You got me, obviously someone was wronged, but not me. I could use some money, who couldn't, but not like this. Even not knowing all the details for sure, if I would file a claim and be completely out of line. What if I could get into trouble just for trying to make a buck. I'm NOT going to do it. I have no reason to as of yet. If I find out tomorrow that any of my personal info or anything else was leaked then maybe. I'll look into it some more and see if I can find any details or specific reasons why I should.

Think about it, who makes any money in a class action lawsuit. You're comments about making a buck are probably correct because that's about all you'll make. The lawyers representing the group are the ones that get the bulk.

Unbeknown to me (due to address change), I was involved in the Sears class action suit years ago. I guess it was a multi-billion suit and a couple years ago I received a check for a whopping $3 and some change. I sent it back.

Got the same email from paypal. The "sue everybody" mentality has hit again. I can't in good conscience sign up to some crap that never affected me in an adverse way. I agree with the above post about the question of who is really making any money here. This sue happy world is killing good businesses, and shredding the judicial system. Don't play into the hands of greed.

I got the email too. I have had some disputes over business practices and actions by PayPal and I cancelled my account some time ago. I will never do business with them again. I never lost any money but they shure played fast and loose with my account. I did not like their actions at all and their customer service was even lower than AOL/Compuserve. Those class action suits are just to make the lawyers rich tho.

PayPal has the habit of freezing people's accounts ***** nilly. That's what the lawsuit is about. Some eBay seller's have had their $8000 account frozen for half a year because some buyer didn't receive their $3.99 music CD. Or because the seller actually tried to withdraw the $8000. And on and on.

If you are a member of the "injured class", you'd know it.

The only class action settlement i filed for was the one against the CD companies for the price "fixing". About a year after i filed a complaint, i got my check for $20 and change. Was i hurt in an way, not really but hey i was young and dumb kid. Frankly still am but that paypal settlement is a joke if you ask me.

I got the same email and read about 2 paragraphs and deleted it. No harm to me, so why do I want $2!? Although, it will probably be in American funds!

It basically is for people that have had accounts frozen. The language filter might nuke this URL, though it explains everything, and I do not like the language myself. So, just try www.paypal (bad word) .com to find out more.
