I am going to purchase a pioneer CD player for my '92 Flareside NITE single cab. I also need a good pair of speakers to replace the factory ones. I was lookin at pioneer speakers but i heard there was better. I also need to know what "way" of speakers I need to get. 4 way, 3 way, 2 way????? I am only getting two speakers for the doors if that helps. Could somebody help me?????? (6.5" speakers)
If you are just going to replace stock speakers, go with a 2 way. Do you really need a tweeter, then a 2inch and then a 6 or 8? New 6-8 inch have enough range that the midsize is not needed. As for brand, don't buy before you listen to Boston (boston accoustic) you won't be disappointed. They can be pricey, but they perform.
I'm not really replacing the stock speakers, I'm just buying a pair of speakers that will put out more sound and a better quality of sound. I don't know much about speakers and I just don't get the whole "way" thing. Does the higher of the way produce a better and louder sound? I don't know. See I don't even know what a tweeter is. I'm only 16. Can u explain more camo4stealth or anybody else? Thanks!
The "Way" describes the number of sound elements. A subwoofer exists with just the big cone woofer, it's a "1-way" speaker. A Two-way has two sound elements. It will have a woofer (The big part that you see) and something that puts out the high's, either a Cone center or a tweeter. A 3-way has a woofer, a midrange, and a high tweeter. A 4-way has a woofer, midrange, high tweeter, and a super-tweeter.
The point of different numbers of sound elements is splitting the frequencies that each has to pump out. It's hard for a woofer to put out high frequency sound. Just as its hard (impossible) for a high-range tweeter to put out bass. So by splitting up the entire spectrum of sound amongst the woofer, midrange (midrange can be either a cone or a tweeter itself), and a high tweeter, you're allowing each to exist in a much more specific range. This enhances clarity as well as the decibels that it can put out.
This is not to say that you HAVE to have 3- or 4-way speakers. 2-ways can sound every bit as good as the others. A quality speaker's woofer can often handle the lower portion of the midrange frequencies quite well...and the tweeter dip down into the higher portion of the midrange frequencies.
Go to Crutchfield.com for more information on car stereo equipment, if you want to. You can always ask us here, but htey have very good explanations. Just remember, they're trying to seel equipment too though. Millionbuy.com also has very good deals on stuff as well.
Pioneer's sound GREAT. I'm a fan of sticking with the same brand throughout. Pioneer head unit, Pioneer speakers, Pioneer subs, etc. Just make sure you get a speaker, no matter what brand, that has a high sensativity (89db is the least I'd settle for...if not 90 or more). This means that it will turn more of your watts into usable sound then just useless junk. 3-way ought to not cost much more.
As far as what to get, economically concidering, Pioneer can't easily be beat in regards to its cost to performance ratio. They have a great sensativity, good powerhandling, imaging isn't an issue, and they're not going to rape your wallet. Sony Xplod, Kenwood Excelon are the only two that I can think of that come close to the Pioneer's. Kenwoods will probably be a bit more expensive, and Sony's a bit cheaper.
Just don't expect alot of bass out of whatever speakers you get. For that, you need a sub. I plan on getting a 6.5" tube sub to go behind my seat someday. SC means space constraints...
I installed Infinity Reference 5 x 7"s in my 86 Ranger XLT SCab, at the time the Infinity Kappa series was too expensive, and the Perfect series' didn't exist. Along with a self contained powered Kenwood 8" sub and a Kenwood DIN style head unit and Kenwood 10 disc changer it's the best sounding system I've ever heard in a Ranger.
It was my first install and I've received many compliments on the sound quality, I wasn't going for "Thump" or excessive volume like alot do.
My advise would be to go with any Infinity speaker you can afford, you won't regret it.
Hey, I back up spicy429 on the Infinity speakers. My current system utilizes their 6 1/2 reference combos ( separate tweeter and midrange speaker) in the doors with 6 1/2" reference coaxials ( tweeter mounted in the center of the midrange speaker) located in the kick panels. I will only use Infinity speakers for the front sound stage because of the overall performance/durability as well as price. They tend to be more expensive than pioneer but not by much, you would not be disappointed. They are extremely tough speakers, the combos that i run are rated at 90watts rms and have handled 150watts rms(very clean power mind you) for the last two years and have not failed me yet. Hope this helps
Infinity 6x8's are great, decent price, great sound, and they fit right into the stock openings. I recommend them, of course that's what I have in my truck
I'll second or is this third, maybe fourth even, on Infinity. I dropped the 6x8 reference series all the way around my ranger, and the sound is very nice. I've got the front speakers running of an old PPI Art series amp that I've had for about 12 years.
Very good for the price, since my local audio shop was running a special, buy the first set at regular sale price (which I think was 100 bucks for the pair) and you get the second set for half off.
A few other's to consider: Memphis M-Class, Fusion Powerplant and/or Encounter series, Diesel Audio, Crossfire, Alpine SWS series. I'm running Memphis in my competition car, Pioneer 5x7's in my Ranger (which I hate), and Fusion in my Malibu project car. Ranger's getting Fusion Powerplant's real soon.
im not into the whole pioneer thing, i think they've gone downhill from their better days, same as sony x-plodes, actually.. i hate x-plodes now, anyways you can get better than pioneer at the same price and maybe even less, there are brands out there like blaupunkt, kicker is really really good, and like everyone has said, infiinity is awesome, and boston acoustics is awesome, i used to have boston acoustics just on my computer and it was best computer speakers ever, but also there's polk audio and many others, i personally would recomend kicker coaxials, or if you have a big wallet going with a kicker component system with 6 1/2" mids and mount the tweeters in your upper door panel, but thats if you have a big wallet, but u can go onto ebay and find a lot of stuff cheaper than anywhere else, good luck
Hope you didn't go with those Pioneers just yet. Also a two way speakers with a good quality tweeter is sufficient try Polk audio db series speakers and the best place to go for info is www.crutchfield.com they can inform you on what 2way and 3way does decible ratings and wattage matching your speakers to your head unit. They can also tell you what fits easily in your vehicle.
