I want to upgrade the speakers in my 99 F350 Crewcab. I bought some Pioneer 3-way speakers at Walmart. What a big mistake. The Pioneer's sounded worse than the factory speakers.
I don't need super-duper $200+ speakers, just some nice ones that are an improvement over the factory ones, preferrably under $100.
The most amazing speaker I have ever heard was a set of Infinity 2 ways in a truck. It was outright nivana to the ear's if your looking for outright sound quality. The price may not be in your range though. I don't have any prices off hand. sorry
I went the way of Infinity in the rear and the Alpine in both doors. I liked the infinity because of the outstand clairty and the alpine because of the volume.. As far as base I went with the sureform and 2 10's under the rear seat. Everything is driven with an Alpine 342. Great for making the young ones look around and try to figure where the sound is coming from..
I agree - get the Infinity Kappa 5x7s. They'll fit right in the stock openings and they sound great. Check eBay, they're available constantly for $75 or so a pair.
I have Boston Acoustics 6X8's bolt right up.Sony X-plod 4 channel amp driving front and rear speakers.Bazooka self powered bass tube. Its a pretty decent setup.
I think it really depends on you and your tastes. The upgrade speakers will sound a lot better than the crappy stock ones - maybe you'll be happy with that. If not, the sky's the limit

PeteC, I agree with what Oppy wrote because I installed four Infinity Kappa 572.5's which I bought off E-Bay for about $75 a pair. I did a fair amout of research and was worried the factory HU would not power the speakers well enough. They did sound much better than stock with the factory HU but I already bought high output Alpine HU so I put that in. If I had not already bought the Alpine I might have stayed with the factory HU because I like the stock look better but the Kappas do sound better with more power. I don't think you will be disapointed though. My 2 cents. Good luck.
When buying speakers look at the nominal rating not max as advertised. Most 100-200W speakers will run fine on a good factory or aftermarket tuner/player. I have Pioneers in mine. Front, rear and system. The key to Pioneer components is to get the better ones. They're like Sears used to be. They have something for everyone but I don't like the cheaper ones or the higher end either. I ain't knocking any brand but I can put together a $350-400 system that makes $1200 owners envious. The key is matching everything to compliment each other. Crutchfield helps alot too. Even if I don't buy from them, I can compare specs. on speakers, receivers etc. I have great respect for Alpine, better Blaupunkts, and Clarion. I don't have much experience with cars or "roomy" trucks though so the INfinity's may be in order to get enough volume. Another note, most of WalMart car audio equipment (and Mom works at WalMart) is bought in batches or bids. Pioneers numbers are generally different at Sears (e.g. 693 is a lower quality than a 4 digit). WalMart also keeps older versions longer. The factory setup should run the speakers unless you need really high volume or add alot of bass. I'm deaf but I also drive a regular cab. guess I've rambled enough.
I put a set of the Pioneer 3 ways into the doors and a set of Pioneer 2 ways into the rear. What model did you get from Wally world? Mine were purchased thru Crutchfield and rock!! I also install a Kenwood 4x100w amp to power them. The stock deck can't quite push what they need to work well. I also have a Fosgate 200w punch amp powering a 10" tube between the seats. All the filler you need.
