I am looking at the paperwork and it has this:Specifications:
* Advertised duration: 282 intake/292 exhaust
* Duration at .050: 204 intake/214 exhaust
* Gross valve lift: .484 in. intake/.510 in. exhaust
* Lobe separation: 112 degrees
* RPM range: Idle to 5,500
* Designed for optimum torque from low end to the mid range. Smooth idle for daily driven vehicles.
I have a holley 650cfm on it. wow I wish I had that software. thanks alot for the help!
oh and no headers. I have 2 1/2 inch pipes, no cats, dualed out. thanks again
what is a good combination for a carb, cam, lifters, roller rockers, pistons, and any thing eles you all can think of to put on my 400? i want at least 500 hp. alot of tourque would be nice too. i have a edlbrock manifold. i would like to stay in the 2g to 5grand price range. it is goin in a 73 gran torino that is goin to be manual.
I simulated your setup with 58cc Ported Aussie heads and stock bore and pistons. The torque = 345 Ft-lbs@2000 RPM. Peak torque is 394@3500 RPM. Peak HP is 328 @5000 RPM. The IVC is 67 Degrees ABDC. The Dynamic Compression Ratio is 7.87:1. This should run on 91/93 Octane fuel without problems.
With Headers I get torque = 393@2000 RPM and peak torque is 430@4000 RPM. The peak HP is 372@5500 RPM.
I think that your cam could use more lift. The duration is OK.
I am using a custom Hydraulic Roller cam with 281/281 duration and 0.595/0.595 lift. I have CHI-3V aluminum heads with 64cc combustion chambers. I have flattop pistons which give me 10.35:1 CR. My torque = 425@2000 RPM and 539@4500 RPM. The HP is 540@6000 RPM. My bore is +0.030 and I have a 750 CFM Edelbrock carb and Edelbrock Streetmaster Single Plane Intake and headers. It runs on pump fuel.
My heads come from the manufacturer with guaranteed flow numbers. There is no reason to port them. I did do some port matching to the intake manifold however.
Boring + 0.030 is a safe bore. To go beyond that you need to get the cylinder walls checked for thickness. Even at +0.060 I only get to 416 cubes.
There are stroker kits available that will take a 400 up to 434. I think that these are expensive however. I think that the best bang for the dollar is the high flow rate from the CHI heads.
the stroke kits are really expensive. i believe somewhere in the area of 3000 dollars. do u have the chi heads? and if so how much hp do you think those heads would have over a set of port and polished stock heads?
Can you simulate my setup now and tell me what I should be getting horsepower and torque wise? I'm just curious at where I'm at. Thanks a lot you've helped me so much.
Thanks
Adam
The CHI heads add about 70 Horsepower to a set of ported 2V heads. They also have a better chamber design that allows higher compression. The aluminum alloy also helps prevent detonation. They take 3/8" studs and guide plates for roller rockers.
aevans11,
With your current setup, you should be getting 320 ft-lbs torque @2000 RPM and 363@3500 RPM. The HP is 286@4500.
If you just add headers to your current engine you get 368ft-lbs torque @2000 RPM and 396@3500 RPM. The horsepower goes to 332@5000 RPM.
I am not a big fan of that Edelbrock Cam that you have, but it is better than stock.
