reverse sense IS a seperate option. been driving trucks all my life and really thought it would be silly, but I got it to help my wife. Damn it really is a nice feature. When the tone comes on solid I am about 8" away from impact, and that is just close enough.
Same here.... it's was for my wife since she had backed our trooper into a rock (little damage.. me PO'd of course).
I actually LOVE it. 8 inches away, it becomes a steady beep. Of course, if you have to lower the tailgate, you will want to turn it off.. which is as easy as a touch of a button.
objects in mirrors are closer than they appear it was already there onthe truck we wanted and it does help out alot when i canna get really close to the wall when parking backwards and when leaving tight parking lots its sometimes hard to see the corners of the other cars.
When I was trying to decide between the Ford and the Dodge, I looked in to it, and did find severa after market back-up sensors. Don't have the specifics anymore, but you shouldn't have a problem if you just do a search online.
Its hard for me to understand anyone not wanting the backup sensor on a truck. Of course, I drive mine in a downtown area and park inside a parking garage so the sensor isn't just nice, its essential. I don't think it offers much help for cars, but would still be nice.
If your truck is just for work and you drive in the country I guess it would be a silly option, but if you're a city fella like me, its necessary.
For what it's worth, I don't think you'll save any money on a good aftermarket sensor and it may even be more expensive since they have to cut into the bumper cover (maybe even the bumper) to install the electronic eyes.
