The back doors seem smaller because they are a front door without the vent window. The glass is the same but the metal channel that the glass is glued into is slightly different. the rear of the door shell is the same. The inside was gutted to install the crew cab inner door panels and regulator. the latches are the same except they don't have the door lock cylinder rod. The door hinges are off of 67 through 72 body styles. The inner door handles to the crew were off of the cars from early to mid 70's. The lower scuff plates were nothing but a shortened front door scuff plate but the upper scuff plates were of of 72 style vans. just some info

while the info provided is correct i want to point out that it makes it sound as is the rear doors were modified front ones which is not the case. the rear doors are new stampings made smaller due to the size needed. the doors were designed in such a way as to take advantage of existing components including the door glass and hardware as this is a standard industry practice and since the design is accepted by the end user ford saw no reason to redesign the cab to be sleeker and use more components for such a limited market. crewcabs were manufactured for limited marketing and it did not make sense to spend a lot of development money for the few units produced so only components that needed to be made were. the rear doors are from specific tooling as is the roof and almost all floor components. the back of the door is the same as the back of a front door for obvious reasons, the back of the cab is the same so the back of the back door needed to be the same as the back of a front door as it mates up to an exiting cab back. also the lower scuff plates are not a "shortened" front, they are also a new stamping and if you look at one you will see the pattern does not run off of the end as it would if it were a shortened front piece. hawkrod
very interesting thread... i've got a line on a crew cab, from a '73 f-350, just the cab, the guy want's to have a longer body, and doesn't need the big cab anymore. everyone says it's in exclent shape...
just what i need... another "project"
This weekend I will be picking up my '79 Crew 4x4 with a 460 and an auto.
It is in pretty good shape, and has a parts truck.
The parts truck has mismatched axles. the rear is 3.50 geared. I will probably use that axle, and re-gear the front for better mileage.
Yep that is it.
I am buying him a set of rockwells to put under his Centurian (van like thing witha turbo Diesel.) I get the crewcab fully intact and the parts truck. I get the truck this weekend.
And I got a new rifle last week (Browning A-bolt .338 Win Mag) so it has been a good 2 weeks for me!
